This revelation sent the whole community into a frenzy and they started imagining, instead of the flagship series, what if, they were introduced to Apocalypse Road? The name already creates images of long highways stretching into the unknown as players get a harsh yet beautiful view of a post-apocalyptic world filled with adventure and danger.

This shows that Todd Howard and his team were ready to change the gaming industry with a post-apocalyptic world even without Fallout. The prospect of a different title sheds light on the dynamic nature of game development, where any decisions can change the entire course of a studio’s history.

Community speculating about where Bethesda would have been with Apocalypse Road

After the AMA session, the community was left with more questions than answers. Questions such as, Would Apocalypse Road have made the same cultural impact as Fallout? Would it have the power to spawn sequels, and spin-offs or even create a loyal community? While all these questions are very interesting, they all fall in the What-if category and no one will ever know.

However, this has proved one thing about Howard and the developers at Bethesda, they are always committed to innovating, adapting, and envisioning new worlds without the need for some big franchise name under their belt.
