With the trend of TV shows being adapted from video game series and Bethesda’s treasury of hugely successful IPs, one can wonder if other franchises will also get a similar treatment. When Howard was asked about it, he stayed mum but didn’t categorically deny the possibility either.

Howard spoke to IGN during Fallout‘s premiere, and the studio chief was asked various questions. He also stated that he was skeptical and apprehensive about the IP being adapted into any other form of consumable media, like a TV show or a movie.

The driving force that made him change his mind was Jonathan Nolan, a prominent screenwriter in Hollywood whose works include The Dark Knight Trilogy, Interstellar, and Westworld, among many others. The screenwriter is also a sibling of Christopher Nolan, widely considered one of the industry’s best new-age directors.

When asked if other properties could be seen on the small screen in the future, Howard was very vague and foggy with his answer:

I don’t know. There’s nothing in the works

You never know if someone’s gunna click

I can’t predict the future

Howard also stated that the studio’s motivation behind the TV show adaptation was not doing it because it felt right. Instead, he said that it resulted from combined effort and a valuable partnership mixed with the confidence that made the studio’s executives feel they would put their best foot forward regarding quality.

Further in the interview, Todd Howard also states that while the TV show tells a fresh and original story, the fact that it belongs in the same universe as the games offers the creators a lot of avenues for exploration.

One such avenue that the show allowed the studio to show was the past:

The other thing I wanted to do in the show that we do a little bit in Fallout 4 and some other places, is show the past

One of the best things about Fallout is the world before the bombs fell. It’s really unique

The show has the ability to show the past in a way the games never did.

Reviews have started pouring in for the TV show, and many critics are claiming that the TV show is shaping up to be one of the best video game adaptations that have come out recently. This also makes one feel like the show might be renewed for a second season. But nothing is known for sure.
