While fans were anticipating a teaser for Gears of War 6 at the Xbox Showcase 2024, The Coalition surprised everyone by revealing Gears of War: E-Day instead. At first glance, the game appears to embody the classic Gears of War elements, suggesting that The Coalition has decided to return to its roots.
Not only is Gears of War back, but it’s also going back as E-Day is a prequel to the first Gears of War game. While the fifth installment of the franchise failed to charm fans, E-Day has got everyone excited, as it could be the start of another trilogy.
Gears of War: E-Day Could Be a New Start for The Coalition
Gears of Wars is one of those franchises that has a huge fanbase due to the success of the initial games in the series. However, Gears of Wars has turned into a shell of its former self, and this was evident when Gears of Wars 5 was released as it wasn’t received well by the fans.
In comes the teaser for Gears of War: E-Day, which honestly feels like a breath of fresh air. The Coalition has decided to go back in the past and start afresh. The title will showcase the story before the first Gears of War game and what it felt like to be at the start of a war.
This could potentially start a new trilogy. Furthermore, this will build a solid foundation for the potential release of Gears of War 6. As per The Coalition’s Creative Director Matt Searcy and Brand Director Nicole Fawcette, they are looking to explore the timeline of both the past and future.
We’re not retreating from the stories of Gears 4 and 5, though. We just spent time thinking about the stories we want to tell, and we can flex the franchise from both sides. We’re excited about telling this story, and hopefully, fans will love this story too.
Since Gears of War: E-Day takes place 14 years before the story of Gears of War 1, there is a lot to unravel. There will likely be more games following the story of Gears of War: E-Day, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Breaking Down Gears of War: E-Day teaser at Xbox Showcase 2024
Gears of War: E-Day, which stands for Emergency Day, has been referenced in previous games as the day when Locust Horde, a race of genetically altered humans, starts to ensue chaos and destroy civilization. This is visible in the teaser, where you get to see broadcast messages on TV. Indicating the world is in an emergency.
This is followed by Marcus fighting a Locust, and as he is about to fall to his death, he is saved by none other than Dominic Santiago. also known as Dom. The teaser ends with both of them looking at the abyss that lies ahead and the war that is about to take place.
Gears of War: E-Day will likely explore the chemistry of Marcus and Dom. We might also see Dom’s family and especially deep dive into his wife Maria’s backstory. Overall, the game is going to bring back the chaos and panic of when Locust emerged and started to devour all humankind.
