A lot goes into making great video games, and Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty is certainly one of them. Black Ops and Modern Warfare have been competing for supremacy in the series for a long time. While the former was winning during its early days, it has gotten over the road to declension, and now the latter has the lead.
Nonetheless, none of the games are left without veterans to advise. Retired Lt. Colonel Hank Keirsey has been advising Call of Duty teams since day one but he’s not the only one. Other military veterans are also bringing in expertise to give shape to a franchise loved globally by players. And such was the case with the first Black Ops game, too.
Call of Duty Developers Must Be Proud of it Even Today

Every Call of Duty game tries to do something different than the former while also bringing in new elements to captivate the players. But that’s not an easy feat, and the pressure went through the roof while developing Black Ops as the former Treyarch community manager Josh Olin explained in one interview.
As all the other games are special in their own way, Black Ops too needed to stand apart in its own way. Josh said:
We put a ton of pressure on ourselves up front when beginning the Call of Duty: Black Ops project, regardless of the industry climate. Every new Call of Duty game seeks to take a big step forward from the previous entry, and Black Ops is no different.
To that end, we can safely say that the effort they put in was worth it, as it still stands as one of the most beloved video games in the franchise.
And That’s How Black Ops Ended up With The Best Enemy AI
![The Call of Duty: Black Ops team actually took advice from a real-life Spetsnaz.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/09055154/Black-Ops-1-1-1024x682.png)
Spetsnaz has appeared in both the Modern Warfare and Black Ops franchises, but the 2010 game got some expert advice that left the game with the best enemy AI to date. Josh also told the story about when the team got in touch with a Russian Spetsnaz operative, Sonny Puzikas.
The team got a lot of useful insights from him that eventually ended up in the game. Olin said,
We were able to actually build an in-game enemy AI type out of what Sonny taught us, which make the Spetsnaz soldiers in Black Ops a far more formidable opponent than in any other COD game to date!
Call of Duty: Black Ops is considered ahead of time by fans and as the latest installment, dubbed Black Ops 6, has been revealed with the mysterious The Truth Lies campaign, fans have high hopes for it. Especially after how the previous entry in the popular military shooter disappointed the fans.
