X-Men ’97 delivered a slam dunk of an episode with Remember It, the 5th installment of the season, that followed the themes of mutant identity, and the way in which mutants have struggled to incorporate themselves in the world.

The episode sees Magneto, Rogue, and Gambit travel to Genosha as the country is being admitted to the United Nations, while also following the remaining X-Men in the X-Mansion, where a camera crew is busy interviewing members of the team in a bid to familiarize them with the mainstream audience.

However, things go south immediately as personal feelings get involved in more than one relationship, and the mutant world is rocked by an enormous tragedy, one that could have put multiple characters in peril.

Even before the season aired, Executive Producer, Creator, and Head Writer on the show, Beau DeMayo was released from Marvel. It is not normal for writers to part ways with studios, but DeMayo could be described as a top creative within the studio, having worked on Moon Knight and Blade, the writer seemed to be an integral part of the creative team.

However, the writer’s release came with the suspension of all media and press appearances, which seemed unusual. While details have been scarce about the writer’s release, it seems that fans want him back ASAP, given how the show has been going in Season 1.

Beau DeMayo has allegedly finished writing Season 2 for the show and was in early discussions for Season 3. Given how Episode 5 is being received, fans are eager to see the writer/producer see the entire show through, taking to the internet to pressure Marvel to consider rehiring the showrunner.

Fans have stormed Twitter with tweets and messages, requesting Marvel Studios to reinstate Beau DeMayo. It is not unprecedented for Marvel to fire and hire based on fan demand, as was the case with James Gunn. DeMayo himself talked about how important the episode was for him, on his personal Twitter account.

Episode 5 left quite an impression on fans, which has caused them to collectively demand more episodes written and headed by DeMayo, come the end of Season 2

With the fans growing ever-vocal about DeMayo’s exit, audiences can only wait and see what Marvel’s next move will be. It has not been made public why DeMayo was forced out, and information is not forthcoming from either DeMayo himself or Marvel. However, the show is set for another season thanks to DeMayo as the House of Mouse continues looking for other head writers to take the story forward.
