A ton of information about the upcoming Call of Duty entry, Black Ops 6, dropped recently, and yet, file size seems to be the topic of discourse.
The franchise is known for having humongous file sizes, but after the upcoming entry’s size was unveiled, people were in complete disbelief. While it seems to be a misunderstanding, the reaction to the discourse is interesting to read through.
The New Call of Duty Game Is Almost Double the Size of Previous Games

Following the Xbox Games Showcase, we had an exciting Black Ops 6 direct that gave us all the information we’d need on the upcoming release later this year on October 25th. While much was said about the game, its file size seemed to take center stage. After doing some digging, players found out the game would take up around 300GB of space. the
Now, people were expecting a large file size; the franchise is no stranger to that, as we all know. However, even 300GB is excessive for its standards. No doubt, you’ll have to do some adjusting by way of uninstalling some software or buying a new hard drive to fit the game onto it.
Plus, if the game is that big, there’s no doubt that the updates will be big. We saw this before when Modern Warfare 3 received a 100GB pre-launch update, which could be indicative of what happens with the upcoming entry.
sounds about right

However, it turns out the game isn’t 300GB; that’s the space it’ll take while including the other games on Call of Duty HQ. It could be around the size of the other games as well, but unfortunately, people in the comments didn’t know, and the discourse took off anyways.
300GB Is a Ridiculous Amount of Space to Ask From Players

While the file size might’ve been a misunderstanding, observing people’s candid reactions to the 300GB reveal is interesting.
Yeah GTA6 the only game that’ll be acceptable at this size.

Some players said they wouldn’t mind the 300GB file size, but only for GTA 6. Even then, people felt that Rockstar would manage to reduce the file size by almost half.
The sentiment isn’t shared among everyone, however. No matter how excited you are for a game or how highly praised it is, a 300GB installation size is unreasonable to expect from anyone—at least, that is what some people expressed.
Aight they’re gonna have to sort this shit out because I don’t even play warzone and that’s probably half of it😭

Most people won’t have this space without making some storage adjustments. Also, even if they did, it’s still a humongous amount.
Even if the size debate was a misunderstanding, as the game continues to update with more content, the space it consumes will continue to grow. Pretty soon, jokes about needing a separate HDD for a Call of Duty game won’t just be a joke anymore.
