Gears of War: E-Day was a title that was rightly one of the highlights of the 2024 Xbox Game Showcase. The game’s reveal offered fans of the series a visual delight and got them excited for the upcoming title that will most take the series back to its most successful in-game timeline.
However, even after the reveal, fans have questions regarding the upcoming game. Thankfully, Windows Central interviewed the game’s Creative Director and the franchise’s Brand Director, and it answers one of the most crucial questions that most Gears of War fans will most likely have.
Gears of War: E-Day Multiplayer Given a Subtle Nod by the Game’s Creative Director
The Gears of War: E-Day reveal excited fans, who were relieved with the game’s announcement after the franchise recently went through a tumultuous time. Despite fans being caught off-guard by the prequel announcement, they aren’t complaining. In fact, almost everyone is boarding the hype train for the title.
Series enthusiasts do not need any introduction to multiplayer modes featured in every main game since its inception. But since Gears of War: E-Day seems to be switching things up. It won’t be asinine to wonder if the upcoming title will follow this tradition.
The director duo was asked in an interview by Windows Central if the upcoming game would feature multiplayer, and the answer wasn’t definitive. However, from the answer, it seems like fans of the original series will be in for a treat with the upcoming title. :
I would say, this is the next mainline Gears game…Gears has a pretty clear DNA for gameplay modes, so you can probably anticipate where we’ll be going with E-Day.
Since there hasn’t been a release date reveal, taking this information with a grain of salt would be wise, as the game is probably in very early stages. However, the nod by the director means that the team is optimistic about the game having a multiplayer mode.
Gears of War: E-Day’s Multiplayer (Both Co-op and Competitive) Might Be What Xbox Needs
Sony has decimated its direct competition despite the latter having much deeper pockets. Even the historic 69 billion USD Activision acquisition, which went through in late 2023, wasn’t compelling enough to restore people’s faith in the console company.
However, the upcoming third-person shooter by The Coalition might benefit the console company immensely, especially if Gears of War multiplayer returns with E-Day. It will help compel many aspiring console owners to go for Microsoft while simultaneously helping player retention numbers.
Overall, it could very well be Xbox’s answer to Sony-exclusive titles like Helldivers 2, which have tremendously helped the console brand, especially when the PS5 is in the latter stage of its lifecycle. But it also depends on how well the game is received.
