The success of Game of Thrones was rooted in its ability to craft a compelling narrative alongside exceptional world-building, providing fans with something to anticipate for over eight years. Regrettably, the series concluded in a manner widely deemed as one of the worst endings to a show, particularly the final episode of Season 8. This ending significantly impacted the overall excitement and reception the series had garnered, marking a disappointing conclusion for many fans.

John Williams is one of the most legendary composers in the history of Hollywood and his work is synonymous with Star Wars. While speaking to Variety, John Williams talked about working on the legendary franchise.

John Williams mentioned a hiccup in scoring the first movie A New Hope, which was the fact that George Lucas never told him there was going to be a second movie, which led to Williams writing a love theme for Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, but they were brother and sister, so it became incestuous like Game of Thrones.

“I mistakenly wrote a love theme for Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. I learned later that they were brother and sister, so it was an incestuous idea to have a love theme for them. But George never told us there was going to be a second film!”

Fortunately, George Lucas did not remove the romantic theme from future releases, unlike the alteration he made to Han Solo shooting first in the confrontation with Greedo. Acknowledging the mistake, this prompted John Williams to compose a new, non-incestuous theme for Carrie Fisher in The Empire Strikes Back.

Additionally, he introduced first-time leitmotifs for iconic characters such as Darth Vader and Yoda, contributing further to the rich musical tapestry of the Star Wars universe. Over the course of scoring the nine Star Wars films, Williams has crafted 45 identifiable, recurring themes, as informed by the feedback from fans.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Backlash Changed HBO’s Relationship With George R.R. Martin

According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Ryan Condal formed a friendship with George R.R. Martin while shooting an NBC pilot in Santa Fe in 2013. Five years later, Martin approached Condal with a proposal related to “The Dance of the Dragons,” a Targaryen epic he was eager to bring to life. HBO quickly responded to their meeting, extending an offer based on Martin’s recommendation.

This development marked a significant moment in George R.R. Martin’s relationship with HBO. After the conclusion of Game of Thrones and HBO’s search for a successor series, Martin initially felt somewhat disconnected. However, following the backlash to Thrones’ season eight and HBO’s rejection of Bloodmoon, Martin’s influence within the network grew. Ultimately, HBO recognized the value of listening to the creator of the fantasy series.
