Regardless of Johnny Depp’s movies you watch, you will be left wondering how a man with such unbelievable circumstances can be so believable. As an actor, the three Academy Awards winner has an impressively bizarre repertory, whether he is stumbling drunkenly onto a rickety ship as a pirate or making a man with scissors for hands into an honorable, sympathetic character. It therefore requires a great deal of guts to devote oneself to a role the way the actor does.

A stir was created in the entertainment industry and among fans when it was announced that Johnny Depp was leaving two of his most popular film franchises, Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean. Speaking of the first, Variety reported that the actor was asked to leave Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter spinoff series following his defeat in a widely reported libel trial against the publishers of The Sun. According to a Warner Bros. representative:

“Johnny Depp will depart the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise. We thank Johnny for his work on the films to date. ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ is currently in production, and the role of Gellert Grindelwald will be recast. The film will debut in theaters worldwide in the summer of 2022.”

Fearing a possible backlash, the studios ultimately made the decision to distance themselves and take a different approach. There were several publications that claimed Depp would never be able to land another role in a big studio production.

During this same period, he also faced other professional setbacks. According to The Independent, Disney officially announced that they would not be recasting him in any more Pirates films. It is depressing to hear of such harsh decisions given that the actor has starred in five Pirates of the Caribbean flicks over 14 years, with the $4.5 billion franchise becoming the 15th-highest-grossing film series in box office history.
