Dragon Ball has brought a revolution in the anime world. The fighting sequences, over-the-top transformation, powerful villains, etc., has made it one of the greatest anime franchise ever. The main protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise, Goku, is one of the strongest main characters in the anime world.
The dynamic duo of Goku and Vegeta is loved by every anime fan. But there are a few aspects of Goku that make him an awful character. Most people disagree with this. They think that he is a simpleminded guy who loves a good challenge. So here are ten awful things about Goku that will change their mind.
10. Goku Often Overlooks His Body Limit
It is a universally known fact that Goku has some mind-blowing transformation. But often, these transformations come at a hefty cost. These transformations take a toll on his body. But Goku being Goku, does not think too much about it. In the end, when his body reaches its limit, he always loses his ground during the fight. During his battle with Hit, he overdid his Kaioken and as a result, could not even move his body.
9. Goku Never Backs Down From A Fight
Goku loves a good fight. But this aspect often clouds his mind. There are several instances when his opponents are far more powerful than him, yet he fights. Instead of his head, he uses his bulky muscles to think. Goku’s habit of jumping into a fight before strategizing has proved fatal. Unnecessary combat is in his genes.
8. Lack of Killer Instinct
Most fans will agree with this point. Goku lacks a killer instinct. His soft nature to get the best out of his opponent has proved to be a hit-or-miss in the past. It worked with Vegeta and Piccolo, but it backfired against formidable foes like Cell (Dragon Ball Z) and Moro (Dragon Ball Super). He does not kill his opponents until it’s the only way. Goku gave Cell a Senju bean so that he could power up. This characteristic is often criticized.
7. He Is Not A Lovebird
Goku has a beautiful wife and two children, yet he doesn’t know what is a kiss! This is the most bizarre thing anyone has ever heard. Chi Chi, Goku’s wife, loved him from her childhood. Initially, they got married at the end of Dragon Ball and had Gohan and Goten in Dragon Ball Z. Goku also loves his wife, but he hates doing family chores and goes off to train. Chi Chi tries to romance him, yet Goku does not have the slightest idea about it. One should wonder how Gohan and Goten were born.
6. Goku’s Presence Is a Safety As Well As a Threat
Goku is a member of the Z Warriors. He has protected the Earth from innumerable foes who came to destroy it. For that, the Earth is thankful to him. But Saiyans grow in power with each fight due to their adaptability. Presently, Goku has achieved Godly power. It often attracts powerful foes to the Earth. They want to fight Goku. Ultimately, Goku defeats them and saves the Earth, but his presence also brings them to his planet.
5. Earth Over Friends and Family
Goku is a mighty protector. So, it is natural to protect everyone. But he always places the whole planet first, then his family and friends. He never once chose his family or friends when it was time to save the Earth. During the Cell games, Cell was about to self-destruct, but Goku sacrificed himself to protect the whole planet. Even during the Buu Saga, he spent his time fighting Buu to save Earth. Goku could have easily used that time to be with his family and friends.
4. He Does Not Think Twice To Make His Children Fight
Goku has a habit of putting his children up for fight. He does them in good thought of making them stronger. But it often creates problems for them. During the Cell games, Goku knew Gohan had potential, so he trained him hard and made him fight Cell. Even though he won, it came at the cost of his life.
3. Goku’s Love For Spotlight In Dragon Ball Franchise
This is not entirely Goku’s fault. Akira Toriyama wrote Dragon Ball in such a way that Goku always gets the spotlight. After the Cell games, every Z Warrior trained hard to surpass their potential. But when Majin Buu came, Goku stole all the spotlight with his Super Saiyan 3. The same happened in Dragon Ball Super with Ultra Instinct.
2. Goku Loves To Train
Being a Saiyan, Goku has a knack for fighting. So he is training most of the time. He trains hard to keep himself in top shape and ready for any fight. But he does this behind his wife’s back. Goku is a married man. He needs to look after his wife and children. But he often sneaks behind his wife to go to training. Chi Chi always scolds Goku and asks him to participate in house chores. Even after such trashing, Goku flies to train with Whis in Dragon Ball Super.
1. Powerful Saiyans Hate Him
Even though Goku is a Saiyan, he was raised on Earth. So, instead of the Saiyan rage and pride, he grew up nice and humble. But this quality does not come into play with other powerful Saiyans, who are always on the look to hurt him. During the Saiyan Saga in Dragon Ball Z, Raditz came to look for Goku to take him back. But when he refused, Raditz started to fight him. The same happened with Vegeta and Nappa. The legendary Super Saiyan, Broly, also falls in this list. There can be several reasons for their anger. But Goku surpassing everyone in strength is likely the reason for such behavior.
