This is the time that people will be making last-minute alterations to their spooky decor and their costumes and get-ups to truly stand out from the rest of their peers. In this regard, the celebrity residents of Hollywood are no different.
While many of the public may try to look like their favorite characters or stars from the entertainment industry, the populace of Hollywood has to stand out from the rest, which takes them on a wild journey to become creative and go the extra mile with their get-ups. But in the past, there have been several instances where they have managed to offend or create controversy through their costumes.
Some of the most controversial ones are listed below, who truly took things to the next level, although, in the wrong direction.
1: Chrissy Teigen (Dressing Up As A Native American)
In 2008, Chrissy Teigen was seen dressed up as a Native American girl, along with her now-husband John Legend, who dressed up as a Cowboy. This implied the infamous Cowboys and Indians theme, which got them a lot of criticism from everyone.

2: Scott Disick (Wore An Arab Shiekh Robe)
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star drew a lot of attention, although, not a positive one, when he dressed up as an Arab sheikh in 2014 and posted that picture on his Instagram. His intentions may not have been to offend anyone, but many people took this choice of get-up as a mockery of the Arabian culture.
3: Tia Mowry (Dressed Up As A Japanese Geisha)
Actress Tia Mowry was bashed for dressing up as a traditional Japanese Geisha, or female entertainer of the past in Japanese culture in 2013. The criticism was mainly due to her matching the pale make-up that traditional women used in their performances, which seemed like she was making light of their cultural heritage.
4: Pamela Anderson (S*xualizing Native American Get-Up)
One of the more recent incidents when stars took their expression a bit too far. In 2019, the Baywatch star took to her Instagram and Twitter to post a picture of herself wearing only a large Native American headgear and white underwear with white paint covering her top half. This naturally became a controversial topic with the accusation of the star belittling and disparaging the culture.
5: Lily Allen (Dressed Up As Dr. Luke)
In 2014, singer Kesha accused American record producer Dr. Luke of s*xual assault, which became a highly controversial case. But this incident caught a whole new wind when Lily Allen decided to dress up as a doctor with the name Dr. Luke on her badge, which caused an uproar. People were mad at Allen that she was belittling the entire incident and not taking the matter seriously.

6: Hilary Duff And Jason Walsh (Dressed As A Pilgrim And A Native American)
In 2016, Hilary Duff along with her then-boyfriend Jason Walsh were seen wearing a Pilgirm and Native American get-up. This was an even more serious topic than the aforementioned instances as during that year, the Natives were protesting against the Dakota Access Pipeline, which is planned to go through sacred Native American grounds. This became such a heated incident that she had to issue an apology.
7: Harry Hamlin (Wore A Nazi Swastika T-Shirt Resembling Sid Vicious)
Actor Harry Hamlin learned the hard way why wearing Nazi symbols on your clothes is never a good idea, especially in modern times. The star was trying to replicate what the English rock band Sex Pistols’ bassist Sid Vicious wore sometimes in his performances. But rather than praise, it brought him the wrath of the internet and the media.
8: Heidi Klum (Depcited The Hindu Goddess Kali)
Along with being one of the biggest supermodels in the world, Heidi Klum is also famous for her eccentric Halloween get-ups throughout the years. But by far, the most visually terrifying and equally infamous among them is her get-up of Kali, a goddess from the Hindu Mythology. Considering that Hinduism is such a prominent and practiced religion, many Hindu leaders found her depiction as an offense to their diety and bashed her for her poor choice.
9: Julianne Hough (Cosplayed Crazy Eyes In Blackface)
There’s a history of blackface in Hollywood where white actors don black makeup in order to portray black stereotypes, which became the reason why Julianne Hough was bashed in 2013. During Halloween, the star was seen putting on blackface and cosplaying the character of Crazy Eyes from Orange is the New Black. Naturally, she was accused of making a joke about such a serious topic while incurring the internet’s wrath.

10: Chris Brown (Dressing Up As A Terrorist)
In a 2012 post on his Instagram, the music artist was seen wearing a turban and a crossbody magazine belt of bullets resembling a typical terrorist. What didn’t help was his caption “Ain’t nobody F—ing wit my clique!” This naturally didn’t go well, as we all know what America feels when it comes to terrorism. This was a huge topic of infuriation in the country, which made the star delete his post.
