10 MCU What If Scenarios Fans Would Die to Watch in the Upcoming Disney+ Series

Disney+ is about to stream the What If Alternate Reality Series. It will explore scenarios where the events of the Infinity War saga went drastically differently than the way they did in the movies. Here are some scenarios we would like to see in the upcoming show.

Iron Man Lives

We hated it when Tony Stark sacrificed his life to save the universe. The Iron Gauntlet Snap at the end of Endgame gave the Avengers the edge but at a great cost. We lost Iron Man. In a popular what if scenario cooked up by the fans, there are versions where Captain America, Captain Marvel, Thor, and even Doctor Strange do the Endgame Snap instead of Tony Stark. The Marvel Cinematic Universe would have been completely different had Iron Man survived the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Thanos Snap is Never Reversed

The entire arc of Endgame depends on Ant-Man escaping the quantum realm and giving the Avenges a way to travel back in time and get the infinity stones. What if that rat never jumped on the button? What if Tony Stark could never solve time travel? That would open a can of worms no one had ever thought about. The Thanos Snap’s death tally, if never reversed, would change the MCU forever. Life would have had to continue as it is. There would have been no way to undo this.

Kill-Monger Could Not Beat T’Challa

If Killmonger could never beat T’Challa in the Royal Trial by Combat, then T’Challa would have remained King of Wakanda. His views on the world would have never changed and thus the African Kingdom would have never opened its doors to the outside world. This would imply that in Infinity War, the forces of Wakanda would have never allied with the Avengers, leaving the latter as sitting ducks when Thanos and his army came to Earth.

Captain America Dies in The First Avenger

Captain America is the leader of the Avengers. He sacrifices his life and crashes the plane into the icy arctic. Having remained in a frozen state for about half a century, he comes back from the dead to lead the Avengers as their leader. But what if Captain America never survived the crash? What if the Super Soldier Serum was not strong enough to keep him alive? Somebody else would have had the burden of leading the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Maybe Thor or Iron Man leads the charge. That would have been a unique but risky proposition.

Odin Makes Mjolnir for Loki

Odin did a grave error of neglecting his adopted Son, giving Thor all the authority and access while Loki was made to look like a joke. Loki’s descent into villainy is because Odin did not pay enough attention to him. In this alternate scenario, Odin treats Loki like an actual father should treat his son. He would give Loki the magical enchanted hammer Mjolnir. As a result, Loki would never have had to become one of the bad guys. This would mean the Battle of New York never happened and thus the Avengers were never created in the first place. This would mean there would exist a world that never had the Avengers to safeguard it.

Dormammu Takes Over the Earth

Doctor Strange struck a deal with the Dark Lord that stopped him from gaining access to Earth. But what if Doctor Strange was unsuccessful and Dormammu found a way to invade the planet nonetheless. A particular 2005 three part comic book issue titled the Defenders gives us a glimpse. In the Dormammuverse, reality has been altered and dark energy lurks at every corner. The Avengers are enslaved and now wok as Dormammu’s personal Hell-Hounds. It is a dark and hopeless reality where evil reigns supreme. Maybe we would have never seen the Infinity War’s event in action. The Dormammuverse would have been much worse.

Project Insight is Successful

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Project Insight is revealed to be Hydra’s secret game plan to make the entire planet submit to their rule. It entailed launching three SHIELD Helicarriers into the upper atmosphere and then rain down liquid steel on anyone who was deemed a threat. Had Hydra managed to stop Captain America and making Project Insight a success, things would not have been the same for a lot of our Marvel heroes. Maybe many heroes who were on Hydra’s Threat List would have died. Without Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and a lot of other superheroes of the MCU, Earth would have been a sitting duck when Thanos would have knocked at our doorsteps.

Ultron was one of the Good Guys

When Tony and Bruce joined forces to make the Ultron A.I, there intentions were noble. What they wanted was for the Earth to get a planetary shield. This shield would help identify and stop the threats before they endanger the human civilization. Deriving the A.I framework out of the Mind Stone, Stark and Banner created Ultron. In the original arc it went rogue and led to the Age of Ultron story line. But what if Ultron was not evil? What if it actually did what it was originally supposed to do? Ultron as an Avenger is something we would all like to explore as a What If Scenario. One of the possible outcomes would have been Thanos being stopped in his tracks and thus the Thanos Snap would have never happened in Infinity War.

Ego Wins

In Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, Ego is a living sentient planet with plans to take over the universe and start life anew in his own image. A harbinger of great power, Ego needed to have an heir in the form of Peter Quill aka Star Lord to get the job done. In the original timeline, Star Lord rebelled against his father. But what if he had not? What if there was a way Ego would have won that battle and his super alien goo seeds would have engulfed all habitable planets in the cosmos? Would the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been the same again? Considering there were beings like Thanos and Hela as well roaming through the cosmos at that time, would they have joined forces with the Avengers to stop Ego from check-mating the universe?

Thanos Snap kills the Other Half in Infinity War

When the Mad Titan did his thing in Infinity War, one half of the universe was wiped out. Black panther, Spider-Man, Gamora, Groot,Drax, Shuri, Scarlet Witch and many other heroes were taken away. But in Endgame, the remaining heroes managed to turn the tide after banding together and in a last ditch effort, travelled across time to steal the Infinity Stones and wish everyone back. The MCU was lucky that most of the Avengers’ leadership survived the snap. But imagine if the Thanos snap had wiped out the other half like Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and Captain Marvel. The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would have had a hard time dealing with things with most of their upper echelons wiped out.
