In January 2019, Viana was waiting for an Uber outside her residence in Jacarepagua, a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro’s West Zone. Viana reported that a man crept up behind her and sat next to her. He then inquired about the time, to which she replied. The man then demanded that she hand over her phone, threatening to shoot her. Viana stated that the gun he presented bowed somewhat and appeared to be soft, causing her to suspect it was not a real gun.

Viana stated that she punched and kicked the man twice. She then put him in a rear-naked choke. Following that, he begged her to turn him over to the police.

Polyana Viana Mota is a Brazilian professional MMA fighter who currently fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Strawweight division. Viana made her UFC debut on 3 February 2018 against Maia Stevenson at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Anders. She won the bout in the first round with a rear-naked choke. Viana has a 13-6 record in MMA. She struggled at first in the MMA promotion, but she eventually won.
