There are several DC movies that are confirmed to arrive within the next two years. Zack Snyder’s Justice League will start the proceedings on HBO Max, and it will be followed by The Suicide Squad later this year. Besides these films, we’ve got The Batman, The Flash, Aquaman 2 and Shazam! Fury of the Gods with specific scheduled releases. But there are several other DC movies that don’t have any release dates despite being under development for years. Here are 12 upcoming DC films that don’t have a specific release window:

Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam was initially scheduled for a December 2021 release. But COVID-19 pushed its production and left it without a new release date. The filming was supposed to begin in early 2021, but things haven’t begun yet. 2022 already has 3 DC movies scheduled for theatrical releases. So, it will be interesting to see if Black Adam gets a mid-2022 release date or an early 2023 date. It will feature Dwayne Johnson as the titular character, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Sarah Shahi as “a university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq.”

Green Lantern Corps.

Geoff Johns has already turned in the script for this film. But before we get to it, HBO Max will release the Green Lantern series. It will probably set up the arcs of Hal Jordan and John Stewart in Green Lantern Corps. But we shouldn’t expect it to arrive any time sooner as it certainly won’t be scheduled before late 2023.

The Amazons

Last year, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins confirmed that an Amazons Spin-off movie is under development at Warner Bros. She said that she would be producing it, but she won’t be helming it as a director. As for the narrative, she said:

“This is a story that Geoff Johns and I came up with and then introduced to [Warner Bros.]. The events of this story take place after Diana leaves Themyscira, the Island of the Amazons, and there are some twists and turns linked to what will happen between Wonder Woman 1984 and Wonder Woman 3. The production of the project has not yet officially started, but I hope we get it because I love this story.”

Considering that Warner Bros. is looking to put out DC movies exclusively on HBO Max as well, they could surely release this film as an HBO Max original. It will bridge the gap between Wonder Woman 1984 and Wonder Woman 3.

Wonder Woman 3

Right after the release of Wonder Woman 1984, Warner Bros. greenlit a Wonder Woman threequel with Patty Jenkins returning to direct. But since Jenkins is supposed to direct Rogue Squadron and the Cleopatra movie as well, we believe that Wonder Woman 3 will take a while to hit theatres.

The Trench

Along with an animated Aquaman series and Aquaman 2, James Wan is also developing a horror film based on The Trench. But as of now, we don’t have any clue about the release window of the project. Since it doesn’t show a lot of promise at the Box Office, it is highly likely that Walter Hamada and co could push this film as an HBO Max original.

Static Shock

Last year, Warner Bros. had put a Static Shock movie under development with Michael B. Jordan attached as the producer. He will be producing the film under his Outlier Society production banner. So, it is possible that the development of this movie could be fast-tracked. But still, we shouldn’t expect it to arrive before 2023, or even 2024.

Vixen

Back in October, The Illuminerdi reported that WB is secretly developing a Vixen movie as well. The CW has been using Vixen quite well over the last few years. But it’s nice that she could be getting her own solo film as she carries some great potential if a bigger budget is offered. She can summon the aura of the entire animal kingdom. So, this is a film that could involve some great CGI battles. Although, I believe that this is yet another project that could cater to the audience on HBO Max, rather than getting a theatrical release.

Batgirl

Warner Bros. has been developing a Batgirl movie for several years now. Initially, Joss Whedon was attached to direct the film, but he left the project soon after the failure of Justice League. But last year when Michael Keaton’s return in The Flash was announced, it was revealed that he might go on to appear in the Batgirl movie after that. So, Batgirl is still probably under development, but The Flash might give us a clearer picture about it.

Nightwing

The Nightwing movie was first put under development back in 2017. Chris McKay took up the director’s chair and he was pretty excited about the film. But since then, the whole dynamic of the DC Films Universe has changed. We haven’t heard anything about Nightwing since the last year. It is still supposedly under works, but WB has never prioritized it as a project. Hopefully, Nightwing will find a home on HBO Max if Warner Bros. doesn’t think that it could do well commercially.

Constantine 2

Last year, it was being reported that a solo Constantine movie was also in the works besides JJ Abrams’ Justice League Dark series. And soon after that, we started hearing reports about Warner Bros. wanting to do a Constantine sequel with Keanu Reeves. This was confirmed by actor Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in 2005’s Constantine. He shared a couple of images on Instagram about Constantine 2 being in development. But since Reeves is currently busy with The Matrix 4, John Wick 4, and John Wick 5, it might be a while until he returns as Constantine.

Update: A new Constantine series has been greenlit on HBO Max. So, Keanu Reeves’ Constantine sequel may not happen after all.

Zatanna

Last year, a Zatanna movie was also reportedly put under development. This film may or may not be connected to JJ Abrams’ Justice League Dark universe on HBO Max. So, we’re not going to know its release date at least until Abrams delivers his team-up series on Warner Media’s streaming service.

The New Gods

Ava DuVernay has supposedly been working on the story of The New Gods since March 2018. Last year’s reports suggested that WB was still developing the project. Although, Ava DuVernay has also been occupied with several other projects. So, it seems that WB might be looking at how Eternals does before giving this film a priority. But let me make it clear that even though Darkseid & other New Gods are involved in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, this film will take place in its own separate Universe.

It’s just sad that Warner Bros. isn’t committing to all these projects. And they aren’t even prioritizing films like Man of Steel 2 or Batman Beyond. Hopefully, these rumored films will find new release dates and Warner Bros. will give us a clear picture about all the other 12 projects that have been mentioned above.
