Hugh Jackman On His Nice Personality

The Les Misérables star revealed that any sort of label as an actor is nothing more than an enemy to him. Jackman said that it’s easier for him to be respectful and polite to people than to be rude or dismissive as he was grown that way. He believes that treating people with respect is just the right thing to do.

“As an actor, I’ve always believed that any label is your enemy. Look, I was brought up in a way where you treat people with respect. So it’s certainly easier for me to be polite and respectful to people than to be an as*h*le. Like, if I’m walking down the street with my family and the 29th person says, ‘Hey man, can I get a photo?’ for me to say, ‘No photos, get f*cked’—for the next hour, I’ll be thinking I shouldn’t have said that. Whereas, if I say either, ‘Yeah, no problem,’ or, ‘Listen, I’m with my family now, but it’s nice to meet you,’ then I move on, in a way it’s easier.”

Hugh Jackman Dropped A Project To Maintain His Image

Hugh Jackman tried his best to be natural, but the Logan star also revealed that he has been told by others to project a certain image as an actor. The Les Misérables star also talked about how he first turned down an opportunity to star in a musical, The Boy from Oz, just because he was advised by others to maintain his image.

“I try to be myself as much as I can when I’m not acting, for better or worse, but I’ve had publicists who’ve told me it’s a bad idea: ‘You move your hands too much, you did this too many times, you should do this, you shouldn’t talk about that.’ I realized it was one of the best parts I had ever seen, and I felt sick to my stomach. All the strategizing and I missed it. Many people were like, ‘This is a really bad idea, this is 18 months of your life; by the time it’s over, you could be back auditioning with everybody else.’ Really, Hugh? This is not your image, this is not good.”

Hugh Jackman though surely realized the fact that being tagged with any label, limits an individual’s actions and decisions. Presenting yourself just the way you are is a much better and more convenient option rather than faking yourself and Jackman seems to realize and encourage this by going through his personal experience.
