Since the arrival of James Gunn and his Guardians of the Galaxy, the world has been just a little bit better knowing that even a wonky dysfunctional group of galaxy-hopping low-level criminals when brought under the right circumstances can become a family and save the universe in their own dysfunctional way.

The found family comprising a human, a raccoon, a tree, and three other aliens hardly gives off a heroic vibe let alone be the poster model of self-appointed guardians in charge of the entire galaxy.

However, now that the Marvel director has declared his intention of the Guardians being a self-contained franchise within the larger Marvel universe, the trilogy has become somewhat more touching because of what it entails – a story about finding a family to belong to even in the unlikeliest of places.

James Gunn Updates GotG Vol 3 Release Date

In a recent Q&A session held on Twitter, James Gunn confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will be coming to the screens very soon. Since the release of 2017’s sophomore Guardians film, it has been a somewhat disappointing experiment of an adventure due to the film’s bold strokes of ambition polluted by a narrative too heavy and muddled to sift through. The first film, in comparison, was precise and perfect in its execution.

Now, as James Gunn prepares for the franchise capper with his threequel, the fans can hardly wait for the showstopping finale to the franchise within a franchise. When asked by eager fans on Twitter about a potential release date, the director tweeted his reply: “Coming in 2020.”

What To Expect From Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

As of yet, no official date has been given to mark the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. However, there are plenty of other details that mark the third film as an unprecedented event in the history of Marvel films.

The saga of Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax, and Mantis has had its ups and downs. The Guardians have already gone up against two galaxy-destroying threats, a murderous sister, and one God despite being still wet behind the ears. This not only establishes them as a lovable group of heroes who will go to extraordinary lengths to protect their own but also the entire universe at heavy costs to themselves. And if that doesn’t make the best storyline of all, then what does?

With Vol. 3 on its way, the audience can expect a similar treatment at a more integral level. James Gunn has always been clear on his intention about Guardians being inherently about family and his films have shown enough examples of that, beginning with the mixtapes to Yondu’s sacrifice to Groot’s emotional farewell marked by a rare “We are Groot.”

On that tone, the third film which will serve as the Guardians’ farewell to the MCU following the two colossal events of the Infinity Saga, may very well find yet another Guardian sacrificing themself in order to protect their family, if not already ravaged by Thanos’ universe-ending plans.
