While the first Avengers set a cinematic precedence, Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of an entire franchise consisting of twenty-two movies over ten years. Chris Hemsworth, the actor who plays Thor, recently teased how huge, and how historic the upcoming Marvel film truly is.

While promoting his new film 12 Strong, Hemsworth discussed his on-set experience and what makes him excited about the Avengers film:

“This is one of the biggest things in film history and to be a part of it was just incredible. I think what these characters are about to face — with Thanos — there’s been nothing quite like it. There are 76 cast members or something like that. I think what people are going to be excited about is what I was excited about and that’s Thor meeting the Guardians and Iron Man meeting Doctor Strange.”

Many fans fear that Avengers: Infinity War and the Untitled Avengers 4 could feel too over-crowded with so many major characters appearing in the two films, but Hemsworth thinks that fans will be satisfied with how our favorite characters are handled:

“The interactions between all of these characters and the different sorts of chemistry and the relationships that are formed is something that people are going to be pretty blown away by.”

Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4, 2018, and includes a cast of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Hiroyuki Sanada, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Josh Brolin.

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
