Ben Affleck Still in a “Strange Limbo” When it Comes to His Future as Batman

For those of you that have road the superhero blockbuster bandwagon over the last couple years; you’re probably pretty well aware of the current state of DC’s connected movie franchise… the DC Extended Universe. The franchise has definitely seen better days, with last fall’s Justice League only raking in $656 million on a $300 million budget. That might seem like a good profit to some of you, but remember… Justice League was meant to be DC’s answer to The Avengers.

The numbers don’t lie… the average movie going population just isn’t rushing out to see what DC is offering. For whatever the reason, DC’s movies haven’t been getting the critical acclaim or, in some cases, the box office returns that we have come to expect for major superhero blockbusters. That kind of reaction to a film is really demoralizing for everyone involved… from the director who is trying to realize a vision, to the visual effects team who spent countless painstaking hours detailing Doomsday’s trollish face. It seems, however, that the guy really taking it to heart is their leading man… Ben Affleck.

Over the last year reports of Ben Affleck’s departure from the DC Extended Universe have been making headlines. In an article by Revenge of The Fans; Mario-Francisco Robles gives some insight as to how Ben Affleck’s run as Batman was not exactly what he signed up for.  One of his sources gave a bit of info on the current state of the Batman character and Affleck’s level of commitment.

Here’s what he had to say.

“The present Batman is still Affleck. A change in cowl will not happen publicly until Ben is officially gone, and he is currently The Batman. But like we have said, it’s a negotiation thing right now. Not money, but appearances and creative. Ben isn’t wanting to vacate, but not wanting to commit fully.”
