Avengers Infinity War and Avengers 4 are two movies that are meant to serve as an end of an era for part of the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe. With contracts wrapping up for many actors in the MCU, Phase 4 will be a new beginning for the MCU in more ways than one. For Chris Evans, who has been a big part of these films for many years in the role of Captain America, Avengers 4 will be the end of the line.
In an interview with The New York Times, Evans spoke about how the next two Avengers films will be his final performances as Captain America before retiring from the iconic role:
“You want to get off the train before they push you off.”
The article goes on to say how Evans will go for Avengers 4 reshoots in the fall, which will effectively “mark the end of his tenure in the familiar red, white and blue super suit.”
For many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this news will be tough, but everything eventually comes to an end. Evans has become the definitive Captain America for many audiences of all ages. After many films in the role, it will be time to say goodbye to his iteration of the patriotic super soldier. It will be sad to see his Captain America go.
Many fans are hoping for either Bucky or Sam to eventually take over the mantle of Cap. Kevin Feige has even talked about the possibility of Steve Rogers being recast down the road.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4 stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Benicio Del Toro, Danai Gurira and Josh Brolin.
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
