This comes via an Instagram post by Johnson that confirms the beginning of the production of the film, although the picture doesn’t feature him. It shows Statham in front of a sleek car along with the director David Leitch. Here’s what he wrote in the post:

“DAY 1 and the evolution has officially begun. Long awaited Fast & Furious spin-off movie, [Hobbs and Shaw] is electric. My partner in heavy crime & fun [Jason Statham] is lookin’ like $1 million bucks and holdin’ it all down. Our visionary and bad ass director [David Leitch] (just directed Deadpool 2) at the helm and ready to evolve the franchise in exciting and fresh new ways.”

As many fans would know, Johnson is currently in Hawaii filming for Disney‘s Jungle Cruise alongside actress Emily Blunt. He’d be joining Statham on the sets of Hobbs and Shaw in a couple of weeks. The actor and producer wrote the following:

“The man known as ‘HOBBS’ will touch down in London in two weeks. Pancakes, tequila and a** kickin’s on me.”

Earlier Director David Leitch also took to Instagram, just after Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers made an epic comeback against the rival Chicago Bears.

“Week 1 Hobbs & Shaw and Packers football life is good.”

We don’t know the plot of the film yet but it is slated to hit the theaters on August 2nd next year. Fast & Furious 9 will reportedly begin filming next year.
