Fans of the current PlayStation 4, do not fear! Plans for the upcoming yet to be titled PlayStation 5 are underway. The games popular on the PS4 will not be forgotten as they will be able to be played through backwards compatibility.

The news was comes from a recent investors meeting where Sony’s Senior Vice President, John Kodera, who confirmed that PlayStation 5 players will still be able to play with PlayStation 4 players thanks to this newly revealed feature. However, the news does not extend any further and so details such as how exactly it will work and to what extent are yet to be divulged.

The PlayStation 5 was announced last month with Sony partner Mark Cerny promoting the company’s newest PlayStation model. This new information seems to be an attempt to reassure fans that the new console will not make it so the still current PlayStation 4 model is forgotten.

The PlayStation 4 was released worldwide in late 2013/early 2014 and in recent years has brought out such fan-favorites as Injustice 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Kingdom Hearts III.

Fans who aren’t ready to say goodbye to the PlayStation 4 just yet will also be happy to know that Sony is committed to supporting the fourth incarnation of the PlayStation console for at least another three years. Meaning that the company is not expecting an immediate migration from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5 when the latter console debuts, which currently is reported not to ship any earlier than April 2020.

While PlayStation 5 is not the official title of the upcoming fifth PlayStation console, the console has been dubbed PS5 by both fans and creators insinuating that PlayStation 5 will end up being the official name following suit with the first four PlayStation models. New features for the upcoming PlayStation 5 include fast loading times and larger bandwidth as a way of making games more immersive, as well as support 8K graphic resolutions.
