A Quiet Place released in 2018 and was a hit with audiences and critics alike. The movie had a budget of $20 million and grossed an enormous $340 million. John Krasinski, primarily known for his time as Jim in The Office, just teased on Twitter that the sequel, dubbed Part II, has begun filming.
A Quiet Place: Part II is aiming for a March 2020 release date and Krasinski is returning to direct. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe will also be returning.
Meanwhile, Windows star Brian Tyree Henry and Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy are also reported to be in talks to join the cast. Murphy’s character was described as a “man with mysterious intentions who joins the family unit” which sounds somewhat ominous. Krasinski could be taking The Walking Dead route of a more human-driven story with monsters in the background.
Last year, when talking to EW about the sequel, Blunt said: “In some ways, the idea of seeing who these people were before this all happened would be interesting, but I’m not quite sure because I think actually it’s now what’s the next chapter and what happens next. I think people feel very invested in this family… I think it’s such an open book right now, and certainly for John who is lasering into something as we speak.”
For those who have not seen the first movie, the planet has fallen into a dystopian state where mankind has become prey to monsters that use their hypersensitive hearing to hunt. The second movie will, according to Radio Times, be answering “some big questions about the monsters” whilst introducing new survivors.
When talking to the Observer, Krasinski said: “We’ll see more of that family continuing to survive and finding out that they’re not the only ones. And I think that we’re also going to get a few answers to the origin of where and how this whole thing happened. I think people want to know that.”
Krasinski wasn’t initially interested in making a sequel to his beloved horror flick but, after he gave it some thought and came up with an idea, he found something that he and Paramount could utilize.
[With A Quiet Place 2], we have the world. So it’s actually the world that’s built, it’s the idea that the rest of the world is going through this exact same experience. Are there other people that have to survive like this? It’s that idea of living through the set of circumstances, not again in the same way obviously, but exploring it more. You only got to do it intimately for a small amount of time, so what happens next?John Krasinski
Right now, there’s not a great deal of information on just what we can expect from the sequel but, if we’re lucky, Krasinski will deliver another incredible cinematic experience for fans to enjoy.
A Quiet Place: Part II will release on the 20th March 2020 in the UK and the 30th March 2020 in the US.
