Rick and Morty’s last season aired two years ago in 2017. Ever since, fans have been eagerly waiting for a follow-up and, come November, their wishes will be fulfilled as Adult Swim are releasing a fourth season.

When speaking with EW, the show’s creators, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, revealed that there will be ten episodes and that fans will not have to wait nearly as long in the future. The two aim to improve the efficiency of output but hopefully this will not detract from the quality of the show.

This new season will be 10. We’re rolling right into the next batch. The plan has always been to get them out quicker.

Justin Roiland

While we have to wait until winter for more Rick and Morty, the two creators have revealed that they have already begun writing season five which lends its hand to the credibility of their desire to improve how consistently they get the show out there.

I think it’s safe to say without fear of being wrong that the gap between seasons 3 and 4 will be the longest and last time that it’s ever so long that it’s ridiculous. I don’t know how fast we can do it, but I know it will never be this long again. There were so many things that had to be settled before we even started season 4, and it’s really safe to say — as Justin says — we’re literally writing season 5 while finishing season 4 just to force ourselves to commit to a certain schedule. Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but it is structured into our deal that if we’re going strong and fast there are options to deliver more episodes at a time. Adult Swim can say, ‘These are on time and great. Do you want to do more instead of taking a break?’ And we can then do more. I’d like to see that day. Just knowing it’s possible makes me eager for it. I feel like a naughty boy when I’m late.

Dan Harmon

Adult Swim has renewed Rick and Morty for seventy episodes. If each series continues to be ten episodes long then that covers a lengthy seven more seasons. This means that Rick and Morty will continue for half-a-decade longer at the least which is a huge win for fans. Hopefully the show’s quality won’t decrease over time.

In other news, Adult Swim released some photos from the newest season showing a surreal and beautiful alien planet along with some crocodile creatures in futuristic armor.

However, there’s not too much to go off of beyond these photos in terms of plot for the upcoming episodes. For now, audiences will have to wait for more information on the upcoming season which will likely come from the San Diego Comic Con panel. Hopefully we’ll find out more about what to expect from the Back to the Future inspired adventurers there.

For UK readers, the show will be moving from Netflix to Channel 4 as part of a new deal. This means that if you want to see more from the dynamic duo come this November, you’ll have to head over to All4 in order to do so.
