After Marvel dropped the bomb at the San Diego Comic Con 2019 with its new slate of upcoming movies, one major announcement that blew everyone away is Natalie Portman’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Female Thor.
Portman is one of the original cast members from the early Marvel Cinematic Universe days in the Thor franchise. She played Jane Foster, a brilliant scientist and Thor’s love interest, in the first two Thor movies. Her second and last major appearance was in Thor: The Dark World.
Just when everyone seems to think Portman is done with the MCU, many were surprised when she attended and appeared at the Avengers: Endgame premiere. Many speculated that she might have a part in the Endgame. She hasn’t been that excited about making a comeback role in both Thor and Avengers movies.

She only had a little screen time at the Endgame movie and it was apparently an unused footage from Thor: The Dark World. She and the Russo brothers managed to record a few more lines for that part which was used when the Avengers time-travelled and Thor found her in his homeland, the Asgard.
During the SDCC panel, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that Thor: Love and Thunder will be the fourth and last installment in the Thor franchise, and Portman will reprise her role as Jane Foster and at the same time, become Female Thor. When she appeared onstage, director Taika Waititi handed her the Mjolnir and bent the knee, signaling that she’s worthy of the hammer.
Thor is the longest running franchise out of all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Iron Man and Captain America franchises having only three installments.
While the announcement was a big surprise to everyone, there hasn’t been complete details about the plot or cast members who will return and make an appearance, though Tessa Thompson will reprise her role as Valkyrie. Taika Waititi will spearhead the production.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit the theaters on November 5, 2021. What do you think of Natalie Portman as Female Thor?
