More details about the upcoming first season of the highly-anticipated video game turned Netflix show, The Witcher, have been disclosed during San Diego Comic-Con. Including some hot new details on main characters: Geralt, Yennefer and Princess Ciri’s relationship.
As with most movie and television adaptations, there will be major changes from the source material to the screen. The interpretation of the characters’ backstories will also show some differences from the video games. The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich talked in a roundtable interview and discussed the approach their team is having for the series.
According to Hissrich, their take on Season 1 shows who and where Yennefer and Ciri were prior to meeting Geralt of Rivia. She said that fans can expect a little bit of everything; they can expand on it since it is based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski. She mentioned they tried reading between the lines and digging into the characters more, giving Yennefer and Ciri a chance to introduce themselves.
Yennefer and Ciri have both interesting backgrounds and it would be a much exciting season if we learn their stories and create fully formed characters out of them before their paths crossed and destinies intersect with one another.
Fans can also expect to see more of the individual’s history before delving into the main plot, which takes place after meeting Geralt of Rivia. If this works out, hopefully, we can’t wait to see how the season’s ending would pave the way for a sequel. This show has been in works for years and only wrapped up filming early May this year.
