Sylvester Stallone in a recent interview with Variety has mentioned that he has plans for another Rocky film.  Although very little of the project is known at this time, it seems that this next movie would center on, Rocky being involved with a new potential fighter who isn’t Adonis Creed… which is making people wonder if we are getting a Rocky 7 instead of a Creed 3.

Stallone described the film.

Rocky meets a young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border. It’s very, very timely,”.

Other news from the recent interview with Variety comes that Stallone is also working on a new show that would tie-in to the Rocky Series.  There has been no news on networks or who would pick up the yet to be announced show, but the Rocky franchise is currently owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and is distributed internationally by Warner Brothers.  This could hint at the show showing up on either the new Warner Bro. Streaming network that is being planned or on EPIX which is owned by MGM.

The television show is being planned as a prequel to the Rocky series, we assume the show would follow a younger Rocky Balboa and his life in the streets of Philadelphia, before becoming the Italian Stallion.

Rocky (1976) picked up the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1977.

Sylvester’s potential return to the series comes as a surprise, in November of 2018 Stallone posted a video from the set of Creed 2 saying goodbye to the role of Rocky, announcing his retirement from the character.

“I just want to thank everyone around the whole wide world for taking the Rocky family into their hearts for over 40 years. It’s been my ultimate privilege to have been able to create and play this meaningful character. Though it breaks my heart, sadly all things must pass… and end. I love you kind and generous people, and the most wonderful thing of all is that Rocky will never die because he lives on in you.”

Rocky was released in 1976 and was directed by John G. Avildsen who would direct Rocky 4 along with the Karate Kid series.  The film was written by Sylvester Stallone and stars Stallone as Rocky Balboa.  The film also starred Talia Shire ( as Adrian), Burt Young (As Paulie), Carl Weathers (as Apollo Creed) and Burgess Meredith ( as Mickey).

Whether you think Rocky has overstayed its welcome, or Creed has reinvigorated the franchise, let us know what you think in the comments.
