Venom 2 is quickly picking up steam almost immediately after the confirmation that Andy Serkis has officially signed on as the director of the movie. But now it has been reported that Venom star Tom Hardy will have a significant input with writing the story for the sequel.

During a press tour for the upcoming A Christmas Carol, Serkis was asked questions about his recent appointment as director of Sony’s upcoming Venom sequel, where he revealed that Hardy will not only return to star as Eddie Brock and Venom but also be contributing to the writing of the movie.

While Kelly Marcel, the screenwriter of Venom, will be returning as the sole screenwriter for the upcoming sequel, Tom Hardy will be helping her out in the script department.

As the movie is more than a year away, there is no current confirmation as to the plot or characters involved in the movie. However, it is expected that Woody Harrelson will return to reprise himself as Cletus Kasady, the psychotic inmate who made a cameo during the mid-credits scene of the first movie who in the comics is know to bond with the anarchistic symbiote known as Carnage to become the villain of the movie.

Despite the potential tease of Carnage, who is infamous for being a serial killer bonded with the alien symbiote, Venom co-producer Avi Arad has suggested that the sequel may still not gain an R rating.

Venom was released in late 2018 and earned an overall box office of just slightly over $856million worldwide, making it the highest Sony-Marvel Spidey-related movie outside of the current two MCU Spidey movies and 2007’s Spider-Man 3.

The movie starred Tom Hardy as freelance reporter Eddie Brock who bonds with the alien symbiote Venom, co-stars in the movie include Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Woody Harrelson.

Andy Serkis was recently confirmed as the director of Venom 2 taking over from Ruben Fleisher, Serkis’ experience in motion-capture performance makes him an interesting choice for a movie whose main character is half motion-capture performance with the potential for more symbiotes to feature in the movie.

Venom 2 is scheduled for release on October 2, 2020
