Lucifer Casts Dennis Haysbert as God In Season 5

Entertainment Weekly has recently reported that Dennis Haysbert (24, Major League) has been cast as the titular character’s father, God. This makes sense as it opens the potential for Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) and brother Amenadial’s (D.B. Woodside) to have their character arcs completed.

With the fifth, and final season, of Tom Kapino’s adaptation of the DC Comics series, Lucifer, coming to an end in 2020 news has begun to circulate regarding the cast and many of the characters that will be introduced or return in the series conclusion and one of these characters will be the big name everybody who is a fan of the source material and show have be waiting a long time to see, God.

In speaking with EW, series co-showrunner Joe Henderson mentions how vital it was getting Haysbert to join production, stating “We did like the big crazy list of (possible actors for the part), and he was my top choice. We were lucky. It was our first and only offer.”

This isn’t the first time that D.B. Woodside has worked with Haysbert, as they had both previously played sibling President’s on Fox’s political action series 24. Henderson went further into the casting decision, suggesting that Woodside had a major hand in the casting and Haysbert even on to mention his connection working with Woodside on projects before, “Every time I see D.B., there’s always this fondness and this connection… We worked on a show that was arguably one of the best shows ever produced in television, so you’re going to have that kind of camaraderie. I don’t know how I went from brothers to father. We’re celestial. We can do that.”

This casting and character announcement means that fans can look forward to an emotional and powerful final act for the series. The last we saw of Lucifer he was entering the domains of Hell and would be very likely still be there once the final season releases.

Lucifer season five will be released on Netflix in 2020.
