2022 Facial Reconstruction Shows Us Horrifying Depiction of Skeleton’s From Skyrim

Facial reconstruction surgery has gone too far this time. As noted early last year by IGN, and now gaining more traction sometime later, a Twitter user going by Sulkamakh helped the Ancestral Whispers team to reconstruct the face of the infamous skeletons from Bethesda’s seminal RPG, Skyrim. It’s a wonderful moment representing the “because we can” energy of the human species, but it also does a good job of highlighting how well constructed the skeletons were in the first place even twelve years ago when the game first released.

The face is quite intimidating, which certainly fits given the skeletons’ villainous nature. That said, there is nothing exactly “otherworldly” about the face, either. Despite the skull it is based off of being entirely fictional and handcrafted, it still fits just fine beind the face of a real man.

In the comments of the post, the developer who modeled the skeletons for Skyrim, Jonah Lobe, noted how much he loves the facial reconstruction. He stated that “[he] literally designed the skeletons from Skyrim – [they] did an AWESOME JOB with the reconstruction. [He] wanted them to look thuggish, thick-jawed, thick-browed and sort of Neanderthal-like. This is THAT.”

Feeling honored and proud that the skeletons’ original designer appreciated their work, Sulkamakh replied saying “That’s incredible! The skeleton models are very iconic. Great to see recognition from someone who worked on Skyrim.” Keeping the love going, Jonah once again replied, saying “[he’s glad they] liked them. Since they were going to be attacking the player, [he] wanted them to look intimidating but not with those meanie-eyes you see on so many fantasy skeletons. The answer, for [him,] was to go heavy with the brows and BIG with the teeth, and just thicc overall!”

Even twelve years after its original release, fan efforts such as this facial reconstruction show just how well Skyrim’s populairty has managed to endure the test of time. Whether or not The Elder Scrolls VI will be able to live up to the legendary status Skyrim has gained is hard to say, but it certainly has a lot to live up to for fans.

Before that can happen, though, Bethesda will have to deliver on the many promises it has made about Starfield, which releases in just about two months, unless you preorder certain editions which allow you to play it even sooner (even if you purchase the game “physically”, thogh there is no disc in any version.) The massive space adventure promises over a thousand planets to explore and deep RPG mechanics, so it has a lot of potential to sit alongside Bethesda’s greats.

After Bethesda releases Starfield, it will move onto The Elder Scrolls VI, a game which is not likely to launch for another six or so years as a result. After that, the next Fallout will be next on the docket, likely pushing both games out of this console generation. A two to three console generation gap certainly sets expectations very high, so it will be very interesting to see if Bethesda can deliver when the time finally arrives.
