After going an extended period of time without seeing a formal PlayStation Showcase, fans of the Sony console were finally treated to a preview of the future release in store for the coming years. Jim Ryan, – the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, – made a brief appearance at the top of the show and made a point of stating that developers are only just beginning to tap into the full potential of the hardware. Trailers for the following games were then shown:

PlayStation Showcase Recap: Fairgame$

The presentation kicked off with a first glimpse of Fairgame$, the upcoming title from Haven, the studio founded by Jade Raymond. While no gameplay was shown, the concept revolves around an anarcho-hacker theme, featuring heists to steal from the wealthy.

PlayStation Showcase Recap: Helldivers II

Helldivers, the title from Arrowhead, made a return with another humorous and ironic trailer. This cooperative game involves squads of four players battling alien creatures and collecting resources for Super Earth. However, not all Helldivers will survive the intense challenges.

PlayStation Showcase Recap: Immortals of Aveum

As part of the EA Originals lineup, Immortals of Aveum, a shooter with magical elements, made its appearance, showcasing its action-packed gameplay and a glimpse of its story. The game will release before too long on July 20th.

Finally, the much-anticipated gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was revealed, showcasing new villains like Kraven and the Lizard, as well as gameplay that demonstrates the interactions between Peter and Miles. The surprising twist is Peter’s symbiote transformation, foreshadowed by the teaser featuring Venom as the main villain. No specific release date was given for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, just that it will release in the fall of 2023.
