Live-service games are a very difficult business to join; hundreds of titles try to make a community and fail every year. According to a new listing on LinkedIn, 2K Games, part of Take-Two Interactive, is working on a new live-service project.
A Reddit user discovered this and posted the job description, revealing that the studio is seeking talent for a “Top-Rated” live-service game. This future title will also be free-to-play and will have an AAA budget. No more information is currently available.
An Odd LinkedIn Offer Reveals a “Top-Rated” Live Service Project from 2K Games
As one of the most notorious videogame editors, 2K Games has hundreds of games in its library. Popular titles like XCOM, Mafia, Civilization, WWE 2K, NBA 2K, and many more. Despite the company’s abundance of quality games, there appears to be a need for more, as a new opportunity has emerged. A recently uncovered LinkedIn job offer lays out some interesting details about the future of 2K.
The LinkedIn job offer talks about a free-to-play game as a live-service. It will reportedly have a AAA budget. One of the things that draws more attention to the offer is the “Top-Rated” live-service game part.

Despite the game’s lack of announcements, 2K Games has already provided this type of description. This could also mean that the project is based on an existing franchise from the company, like a live-service game from Mafia or XCOM. 2K Games has not said anything about this, but it seems that the project is in a very early stage.
The 2K Games Live-Service Project Could be About an Existing Franchise
Other Reddit users quickly talked about what the “Top-Rated” part of the description could mean. Especially when the game has not even been announced yet. Some said that this live-service project will be about the NFL, NBA, or even WWE IPs that 2K Games already owns, but this will also collide with the yearly launch of these titles, which makes little sense.
The possibilities are almost unlimited, but fans are betting on a known IP with a new live service that will be coming soon.
2K Games is part of Take-Two Interactive, which has just acquired Gearbox Entertainment. The social media accounts of the Borderlands creators confirmed this yesterday. Embracer Group sold the studio for $460 million. This could mean a lot of changes for the possible future of this studio, like more collaborations into the 2K Games or even an aggressive expansion from the IP.
