Following the release of Echo on Disney+ – which is receiving mixed reviews but plenty of praise for its eponymous heroine – the next Marvel Studios series to hit the platform will be Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. It will star the fantastic Kathryn Hahn as the titular Agatha Harkness, the centuries-old evil witch first introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021’s brilliant WandaVision.
The show will undoubtedly feature characters old and new from the wider MCU, but which existing ones would it be great to see, and which of them won’t appear? It’s time to look at the potential character inclusions and no-shows in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, which lands on Disney+ later this year, starting with three audiences would love to see.
3. Doctor Strange
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange is the MCU’s foremost mystical hero. Sure, he’s not currently the Sorcerer Supreme – that title belongs to Benedict Wong’s Wong, whom it would also be nice to see in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries – but he still makes it his duty to thwart any threats to reality. A vengeful Agatha Harkness is undoubtedly a threat on that scale, so Strange may step in to combat her. Cumberbatch is a huge star and a massive draw, so adding his star power to the show would be a real coup.
2. Dormammu
Dormammu is one of the most prominent and mighty villains in Marvel’s comic books, and he was tragically underutilized in 2016’s Doctor Strange. Therefore, seeing more of him in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries would be fantastic. The evil entity and dark magic go hand in hand, so Harkness’ use of it may attract his attention – perhaps they’ll strike a deal for her to do his bidding. His potential appearance would also open the door for Charlize Theron’s Clea and other Dormammu supporting characters to appear, which would be brilliant.
1. Wanda Maximoff
It was, of course, WandaVision in which MCU audiences were introduced to Agatha Harkness. She was the show’s main antagonist and was ultimately defeated by Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, AKA the Scarlet Witch. Maximoff seemingly perished in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but death is rarely permanent in mystical superhero circles. It would, therefore, be a treat to see her reappear in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries to foil Harkness – and if rumors are to be believed, it will happen.
Now for three existing MCU characters familiar to Agatha Harkness who won’t appear in her show.
3. Ralph Bohner
Evan Peters surprised everyone when he appeared in WandaVision as Wanda Maximoff’s brother, Pietro. Of course, there was something off about him – Aaron Taylor-Johnson initially played Pietro in the MCU, and he died in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Pietro was Ralph Bohner, a resident of Westview, posing as Pietro under Agatha Harkness’ influence. Given that he turned out to be a minor character and a mere pawn of Harkness’, the likelihood of him appearing in her show is slim to zero.
2. Monica Rambeau
In WandaVision, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau was deployed to Westview by S.W.O.R.D. to investigate the anomaly created by Wanda Maximoff. While there, she investigated Agatha Harkness’ home and freed Ralph Bohner from the witch’s control. However, following the show, 2022’s The Marvels showed S.A.B.E.R. recruited her, and she ventured off into space, meaning mystical threats on Earth aren’t her concern now. Moreover, she gets stranded in a parallel universe at the movie’s climax. Therefore, she won’t appear in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.
1. Vision
Paul Bettany’s Vision died at Thanos’ hands in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. He mysteriously reappeared in WandaVision, only for viewers to discover he was a mystical construct created by Wanda Maximoff. However, S.W.O.R.D. had secretly been reviving the real Vision’s corpse, and he reemerged with a new white look. After having been programmed to kill Maximoff, he regained his memories and flew off. Fans may believe he’ll want revenge on Agatha Harkness for what she did to his lover, but that’s not in Vision’s nature. He’ll spend more time pondering his existence before reappearing in the MCU and won’t appear in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Rather excitingly, his next appearance may be in a self-titled show, Vision Quest.
