Fantastic Fungi has led to an increase in Mushrooms being tested
Fantastic Fungi is a Netflix Documentary about the magical features of a Fungi, it explores the nature’s miracle and how we can use it to our benefit. The Documentary focuses on how Mushrooms can save the world, the research published by BBC is also inspired from the Documentary which explores in depth the use case of Fungi in saving the environment.
Oksana Bondar, director of design at Biohm explains,
“We are focused on solving global challenges, and one of the largest in terms of impact on the planet and ecosystem is the construction industry. We looked deeper into waste streams, and types of materials, and the fabric of buildings, and one of the largest commodities is insulation. The idea was to tackle one of the challenges with a natural solution.”
The research focuses on using the roots structure of the Mushroom and creating industry goods like insulation panels. These Mushroom structures can help replace plastic in several materials erasing the need for plastics which are a huge environmental hazard.
