The Walt Disney Company has announced its partnership with Epic Games to create “an all-new games and entertainment universe” compatible with Fortnite. Through this partnership, Disney has invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games and has acquired an equity stake in return.
Both companies are waiting for the customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals to come through so that they can get started on the ambitious multi-year project. This is not the first time the two companies have come together, though.
Disney was one of the first companies to partner with Fortnite, as fans got a taste of playing with a host of Marvel characters whose rights were held by Disney during the Nexus War event and the Black Widow Cup. So, with news of this new partnership, one can only expect more Disney properties to make it to the world of Fortnite.
The Announcement That Led to Fortnite Fan Frenzy
On February 7, 2024, The Walt Disney Company posted a message on their website that announced their upcoming partnership with Epic Games. The message stated that fans can expect to get characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more.
The CEO of Disney, Robert A. Iger, said,
Our exciting new relationship with Epic Games will bring together Disney’s beloved brands and franchises with the hugely popular Fortnite in a transformational new games and entertainment universe. This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion. We can’t wait for fans to experience the Disney stories and worlds they love in groundbreaking new ways.
Players will be able to create their own Disney experiences and stories and will be able to express their fandom in a ‘distinctly Disney way‘. With that in mind, we have curated a list of 4 Disney properties that can propel the upcoming collaboration through the charts.
1. Avatar
Imagine the breathtaking world of Pandora, complete with its creatures, landscape, and features in Fortnite. With the new Avatar: The Way of Water adding to the already vibrant universe of Pandora, the players will be in for a treat if an Avatar-inspired map makes it to the popular survivor battle royale. The added element of underwater exploration can be exceedingly exciting for fans.
Call me crazy, but a world based on Pandora? I would love to explore that world in Fortnite. And with this new announcement, this can very easily be a reality. Even if not, players can expect at least the characters to make it into the game.
2. Frozen
Featuring the story of princesses Elsa and Anna and their personal journey, it struck a chord with worldwide Disney fans. A rendition of the beautiful world of the Frozen franchise will surely be a crowning jewel in the world of Fortnite.
Popular characters like Elsa, Anna, Olaf, etc. may be set for an entry into Fortnite.
3. Marvel Cinematic Universe
An era-defining franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already collaborated with Fortnite. With the upcoming project between Disney and Epic Games, fans can expect popular Marvel characters to make it into this brand-new Disney-oriented proposed world powered by Unreal Engine.
With stalwart icons like Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, etc. in their bag, along with fan favorites like Doctor Strange, Daredevil, The Punisher, and more, the MCU can be expected to rumble into the world of Fortnite sometime in the future.
4. Star Wars
Any conversation regarding Disney properties would be incomplete without the mention of Star Wars. This cult classic franchise has recently rediscovered themselves with a series of titles like The Mandalorian, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, etc.
The Disney Universe of Epic Games may very well feature Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Rei, Darth Vader, and a host of other iconic characters from the evergreen franchise.

While there is no release date yet, the official trailer shows a glimpse into the possible future with interconnected worlds showcasing various exciting Disney properties. But fans might have to wait for some time for this vision to become a reality.
