Thor is arguably the most powerful Avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s an argument to say it’s Wanda Maximoff, but her human durability makes her a glass cannon, giving the God of Thunder the edge. With the coming battles the MCU’s heroes will face, they could do with some powerful reinforcement.
Sentry is one Thor-level character who’s undoubtedly coming to the franchise, but he has just as much potential to be a villain as he does to be a hero. Therefore, the MCU’s Avengers could do with some other character as formidable as Thor from the comic books to help them. Here are five of them yet to appear in the live-action franchise.
Hyperion
There are several Superman analogs in Marvel’s comic books, with the Sentry arguably the most famous. Hyperion is up there with the next most well-known. There are several versions of the character, some of whom are good and some of whom are evil.
Some are from alternate realities. The most heroic is Marcus Milton, an Eternal sent to Earth as a baby and brought up in human society. He grew up to become a superhero and member of Squadron Supreme before joining the Avengers for a time. He has superhuman physical attributes and can fly and project heat vision. He’d be a welcome addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and given that his species already exists in the franchise (Eternals confirmed it in 2021), he’d be an easy character to introduce.
Quasar
Quasar is Wendell Vaughn, a graduate of the S.H.I.E.L.D. academy deemed unfit for active duty as he lacked the “killer instinct” and will to win regardless of the cost. He became a security detail for scientists experimenting on the Quantum Bands. Vaughn used the bands to defend the laboratory from a team of A.I.M. agents before using them to become a superhero and head of security for Project Pegasus.
He ultimately joined the Avengers. S.H.I.E.L.D., the Quantum Bands, and Project Pegasus are all concepts in the MCU, which undoubtedly paves the way for Vaughn to enter the franchise. He’s an enormously powerful cosmic hero with superhuman physical attributes, flight, massive energy manipulation abilities, and teleportation granted to him by the Quantum Bands.
Nova
The Nova Corps made their MCU debut in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but the character of Richard Rider, AKA Nova, hasn’t appeared in the franchise yet. Rider is a New York high school student whom the Nova Corps’ Rhomann Dey selected to replace him upon his death. As a Nova Corps member, he became a formidable hand-to-hand fighter.
Rider also gained superhuman physical attributes, flight, healing powers, the ability to absorb energy and use it offensively, gravitational control, and the ability to open wormholes. He’s a massively potent interstellar hero who’s also been a member of the Secret Avengers, and there’s every chance he could arrive in the MCU soon, given the existence of the Nova Corps.
Captain Universe
Captain Universe differs slightly from most Marvel characters because it’s not one individual. It’s a concept known as the Enigma Force that acts as the guardian and protector of Eternity. It merges with other characters, granting them spectacular cosmic power – like vast superhuman strength, speed and durability, matter and energy manipulation, telekinesis, and time travel – and enhancing their existing superpowers if they possess them.
They become Captain Universe. It has merged with everyone from ordinary, powerless civilians to mid-tier characters like Spider-Man and big-hitters like the Hulk, Silver Surfer, Gladiator, and Doctor Strange. In the comics, while merged with ordinary human Tamara Devoux, Captain Universe joined the Avengers. Captain Universe would be an intriguing addition to the MCU.
Blue Marvel
Blue Marvel is a relatively new character, introduced on-panel in 2008. He is Adam Brashear, a former football fullback at Cornell University and a member of the Marine Corps with two Silver Stars who fought in the Korean War. When Brashear was the project lead on a scientific attempt to harness anti-matter, a vast explosion granted him superhuman abilities. He has superhuman physical attributes, can fly, manipulate anti-matter and energy, and generate light.
Blue Marvel is also a superb hand-to-hand fighter, thanks to his military training. A member of the Mighty Avengers, he’d be a terrific addition to the MCU. Blue Marvel has been called “Black Superman” – he’s a refreshing change from the usual Superman-esque archetype. Any character who increases the diversity in the franchise would be most welcome.
