Yuki Tabata is often praised as one of the best Shonen writers because of Black Clover. The series is one of the best in every field, be it the unique characters, their background stories, or the plot. Another specialty of the author is to pay attention to each and every character in the series, and in the recent chapters, even minor characters have dedicated storylines.
So, of course, the author would create the best villains for Black Clover. Often, an oversimplified or extremely complex villain makes fans lose their interest in the series. But in Black Clover, Tabata has introduced villains who can give you goosebumps just by their presence in the manga.
#5 Megicula, the Villain Fans Can’t Stop Dreaming About
Megicula is one of the better-written villains of Black Clover. She isn’t about brute strength or mindless attacks; she has a highly inquisitive mind and is genuinely delighted in learning. Her favorite test subjects are, with no doubt, humans.
Yuki Tabata gave Megicula a whimsical nature, as she does not care about her test subjects and will do anything to satiate her curiosity. Despite dying at the hands of the Magic Knights, her end left fans relieved, yet wanting more.
#4 Lucius was Born with Two Souls in Black Clover
Fans were on the verge of breaking the internet when it was revealed that Lucius was actually born with two souls, and the other one was that of Julius Novachrono. The latter integrated into a noble family of Clover Kingdom and climbed the ranks to become the Wizard King, while Lucius bid his time to attack at the perfect opportunity.
Julius transforms into Lucius just as the raid on the Spade Kingdom is considered to be over. All the protagonists were taken by surprise and this is the event that began the final arc of the franchise.
#3 Yuki Tabata Foreshadowed Morris from the Very Beginning
Morris is the definition of a mad scientist. He loves conducting all sorts of twisted experiments and never thinks of their consequences. He even managed to control the King of Diamond Kingdom for years before he was finally caught and exiled.
But the genius of Yuki Tabata lies in the foreshadowing of Morris. He was mentioned in the first arc of Black Clover as well as during other arcs, but it was never revealed that he would take such a major position in the final arc.
#2 Zagred’s Long-Term Gains Plan
Zagred is one of the highest-ranking devils in Black Clover. In fact, he was the one who created the whole plan behind Licht’s five-leaf clover grimoire, the massacre of the Elf Tribe as well as the reincarnation of the elves.
As expected, his cruelty knows no bounds. One good thing is that he does not discriminate between humans and elves, he hates everyone equally. He only ever sees them as playthings or the means to an end. The twist that Tabata introduced was that Zagred didn’t do everything simple because he is evil, but rather because it was a plan set in motion decades ago to help him escape the underworld.
#1 Patolli’s Deadly Insecurities
Patolli played the biggest game of pretend when he posed as Licht. Despite hating humans to his very core, he displayed compassion for his followers as Licht. In reality, he is a cold and deceiving being who only cares about revenge.
However, Tabata did not stop at just showing his blackest side. Asta intruded on Patolli’s train of thought and revealed the insecurities and despair that he held within himself. The villain was simply unable to accept his guilt.
