Hype for the upcoming Fallout series on Amazon Prime Video has certainly gotten a lot of fans back into the games. Even those who haven’t played the games before I now trying out Fallout 4 and adventuring through a post-apocalyptic landscape that is filled with stories and enemies of all kinds.
Fallout 4 in its vanilla state can be a buggy mess more often than not, and instead of expecting much from the official patches, mods can often improve the quality of life. Some of these mods are purely for the visuals, while others improve the game’s immersion and overall open-world experience.
There are hundreds of mods in the market for the game, and here are 5 that you need to try out right now.
BodySlide and Outfit Studio
Considering how vibrant the show is going to be, it’s natural to expect that your Fallout experience should be filled with all kinds of character models and clothing options. This mod aims at doing exactly that.
This mod lets you use a tool that helps customize outfits and body types and lets your freedom run wild with what and who you’d like to see in the wasteland. Not only does this make the game a bit more realistic, but it also lets you be more creative with how you experience the game.
Full Dialogue Interface
A well-crafted TV Show can sometimes have less dialogue and still appeal to the masses given how well the actors do their part. In the game, this can be sensed through all the possibilities and dialogues the protagonist can come up with.
This mod enables the option to do everything your character can (or will) say during a dialogue prompt, instead of just displaying a line or two, as it does in the vanilla version of the game. This may break the suspense a little, but give you more clarity and realistic expectations from what comes next.
Improved Map With Visible Roads
Navigating the wasteland can be particularly fun when you have little guidance and an interface that spoon-feeds you everything. However, it does help to know where the roads lead and how objective markers set the pace of the game.
On that note, this mod improves the Pip-Boy significantly, allowing players to see visible roads in Fallout 4. For those of you who love knowing what the roads lead to, this one’s for you. The color palette, visibility, and design of this interface bring out the quality of Pip-Boy’s guiding systems a lot more.
Sim Settlements in Fallout 4
Just like the show, you’re about to counter several NPCs and settlements that need your help. However, in all honesty, sometimes they need a little too much help. This mod will change that.
With this mod, you can expect settlements to look after themselves a little and evolve on their own. An improvement here can lead you to explore more of Fallout’s open world without having to worry about such commitments.
Finally, they won’t have to entirely rely on you to build a civilization for themselves.
Lowered Weapons
This may not be the most impressive mod, but it surely is the most immersive one. Think of the TV Show. Now, think about how many people would point a gun in each other’s faces all the time. Yeah. Unfortunately, Fallout 4 in its vanilla state always shows you pointing your gun at things/people.
With this mod, you can expect your character to act like a sane and civilized person. Remember, fake it till you make it. Unless you’re in a combat situation, you’ll keep your gun lowered for most parts. In fact, this might just make you feel more ‘human‘ and prevent you from pointing your weapon at everything and anything in Fallout 4.
As we wait for the show to arrive, and keep up with the promise of being a well-crafted adaptation, these mods will keep players busy. The game has close to 20,000 players (the last 24 hours count at the time of writing) enjoying the game, and it’s undoubtedly still one of Bethesda’s better single-player experiences.
What are your thoughts on these mods? Is there a specific one you believe that should be on the list? Let us know in the comments below.
