It’s surprising, but it’s been eight years since the release of Pokemon Go! Despite its age, the game is still smashing all records known to gamers and still holds a respectable player count. Who wouldn’t enjoy catching Pokemon right on their mobile phones?!

Pokemon Go’s success hinges on Niantic’s drive to consistently deliver updates and bring new features to the game. Sure, not all of them have delivered in the way we would’ve hoped for, but they helped the game reach new heights and audiences.

Top 5 Features Pokemon Go Desperately Needs

Although Niantic has done an incredible job in recent years by bringing crucial quality-of-life features into the game, there are several more improvements that trainers could probably agree upon.

Let’s take a look at the top 5 features that could elevate the game to the next level.

5. Bring Remote Trading

It’s a known fact that trading is a core experience of Pokemon Go, but even after years, it’s still largely restricted and can prove to be really annoying for players who don’t have a strong community around them.

The way it is now, trading Pokemon with friends can burn through a lot of Stardust and can’t be done remotely. We can only hope that Niantic brings a more flexible trading system and allows us to do remote trades. This would definitely make the game more fun and accessible to the majority of the community.

4. Option to Discarding Eggs

Just like the mainline Pokemon series, trainers in the mobile spin-off can obtain and hatch various Pokemon Eggs. However, the most annoying part of this process is that, unlike Pokemon, you can’t transfer undesired Eggs to Professor Willow to make more room.

This is quite frustrating for trainers who are looking to hatch specific Eggs but can’t obtain them once due to their storage being full. What’s worse is the time that it takes to hatch any Egg makes this entire situation even worse.

It would be much better if Niantic could bring a feature that could allow players to transfer unnecessary eggs to the professor.

3. Turn-Based Combat for PvP

Turn-based combat has been an essential feature of the mainline series since its beginning. It brings a lot of depth to the PvP system in the game, makes it accessible for all players, and brings a challenge for even the hardcore player base.

Despite the feature’s popularity among Pokemon fans, Niantic hasn’t brought it to Pokemon Go. Sure, it could be a turn-off for casual players who don’t want to do anything more than tapping or swiping their phones. However, it has the potential to completely revamp the game’s PvP system.

2. Endgame Content

Getting to Level 50 in Pokemon Go is a mighty challenge that only a select few in the community have managed to accomplish. You are definitely one of the world’s best trainers if you manage to reach this point of the game.

However, once you reach the level, you’ll realize the game starts to feel quite stale. For higher-level trainers, there isn’t anything to do other than fill out your Pokedex. This has led to many in the community requesting Niantic to add more challenging content or new forms of raid for players at high levels.

1. New Way to Earn Pokecoins

Every Pokemon Go player knows the value of Pokecoins. It’s the game’s in-game currency that is required to purchase key items such as Battle Pass Incubators, Pokeballs, Revives, and more. With how frequently Niantic has been holding events lately, Pokecoins are a must-need.

However, as of now, there’s only one way to earn Pokecoins in Pokemon Go, and that’s by gym defense. It’s a good way to farm the currency, but the 50 Pokecoin cap per day is frustrating. Sure, you can outright purchase it, but they are quite expensive.

With the next Pokemon Go update, it would be great to see if Niantic can introduce a new feature to earn the in-game currency so players can get the necessary upgrades.

Does Niantic need to add any other crucial feature to Pokemon Go? If so, let us know in the comments below.
