What Other Souls-Like Games Have Been Released That Can Keep You Busy Till Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree Releases?

Below is a list of five lesser-known Souls-like games that people may or may not have heard of. Even if you have heard of them and haven’t played them, this is the perfect time to jump onto them, as they will give you some good practice before Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree drops soon.

Number 5: Steelrising – PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S

To start, let’s begin with a rather interesting Souls-like game, which will be Steelrising. This game was developed by Spiders and published by Nacon and didn’t receive a lot of attention upon its initial release, but it wasn’t as bad as everyone expected.

Set during the French Revolution, you take control of an automated robot as you roam Paris’s streets with the set goal of killing the king. As you venture throughout the game, you will encounter all sorts of enemies, whether they be human or robotic, as they try to impede your progress.

The combat is incredibly quick and uses all kinds of equipment and weapons to slash your enemies into ribbons, which would make perfect practice for the parry system, which both Steelrising and Elden Ring both use to an incredible extent.

Number 4: Thymesia – Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

If you love magic, swords, and plagues, then Thymesia is the best game for you as it is a wonderful Souls-like title that has all kinds of monsters, weapons, and spells that allow you to sneak up on your enemies while also being an acrobatic murder machine.

Just like in the popular Souls-like game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, players will be able to dodge certain attacks from their opponents, which, if perfectly timed, could create an opportunity. Players will also be able to deflect the enemy’s attacks to attempt to break their poise and give themselves an opportunity to strike.

As you explore the death-ridden streets, you will come across all kinds of enemies, including sick humans, infected monsters, and even some eldritch horrors. This gives you plenty of creatures to slaughter as you run through the many different streets and infected locations that you will see as you explore the unique world you inhabit.

Number 3: Hollow Knight – Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4/5

For those who have never heard of Hollow Knight, I feel sorry for you. But the good news is, now you have it, as it is a fantastic 2-D side-scrolling adventure that puts you in control of an insectoid warrior as they explore Hallownest, defeating all manner of evil creatures.

Now this isn’t traditional Souls-like in the way that many gamers would think, as usually when you hear that phrase, everyone thinks of a 3-D game where you can change your armor, weapons, and more to defeat bosses in your way.

In a way, Hollow Knight does follow some of these rules, but it adds its own. Just like any other Souls-like game, when you progress through the game, you will encounter enemies, and once you rest, they reset. There are plenty of daunting bosses that will keep you up at night because they are so scary, and there are plenty of skills to find that will help you along the journey.

This game is a little more unique, however, as it acts more like a metroidvania type of experience than a Souls-like one, as it will actively block your path with locations you cannot access or doors you cannot open unless you have a key or a certain ability like an air dodge to access them. Along with this being a fantastic Souls-like game, there is even a sequel currently set to release sometime soon, so it is a great opportunity to jump in.

Number 2: Death’s Door – Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4/5, and Android

Another really interesting title that most gamers won’t have heard of is Death’s Door. This game was a real change for the Souls-like genre, as you take charge of a Crow who is acting as a ‘reaper‘ who works for death.

What makes this game so unique is the fact that it takes on a top-down camera angle and tasks the player with adventuring through a confusing and interesting set of locations as you progress through the game, killing all kinds of strange beasts like a giant frog, a witch, and more.

To add to the already interesting setting, there are plenty of weapons and abilities to find that you can use to beat your enemies into submissions. Each weapon has its own attack style and special combo ability, while the abilities you gain can easily change how simple a boss can be if you learn how to use them.

Number 1: Lies of P – PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Now, Lies of P isn’t as lesser-known as these other titles, but it is still less known than games like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and more. Even though it came out fairly recently, Lies of P is still a rather unknown game, but it had quite a positive response from the gaming community upon its release.

Set in a world full of puppets that were perfected in a location known as Krat, but as always, something goes wrong, causing the world to go into a frenzy and the puppets to go haywire, which eventually leads to the city becoming empty.

This game features the main mechanics of a Souls-like game, as it allows the player to use all kinds of weapons, special arm attachments, and even weapons that you can build from other weapons being put together.

There are plenty of twists and turns in the story of Lies of P, which constantly cause the player to wonder as to whether or not they are doing the right thing, but since the game is heavily inspired by the story of Pinocchio, it would make sense that players can’t tell the difference between a lie and a truth, but in the end, the truth will set you free.

What do you think about these five Souls-like games? Would you be giving any of these games a try? Or have you already completed them, which is a massive achievement? Let us know in the comments.
