Chris Evans has done some of the highest-grossing movies of all time with Captain America standing out more than others. Avengers: Endgame even managed to become the highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide.

The MCU has a total of 44 movies at the moment with more on their way. Their latest project, The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. has gotten praise beyond compare with how beautifully made it is. There will never be enough compliments for the movie and how well it managed to balance every single one of the characters involved within the team. While the franchise dominates the box office most of the time, here are the top five lowest-grossing Marvel movies.

5. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings may be here on this list as one of the lowest-grossing movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but there might be many preceding reasons for it. The movie was received very well worldwide and fans were more than happy to see an Asian superhero finally getting his own movie. The movie made a total of $432 Million in the worldwide box office.

While the number may be big, it wasn’t enough. The movie was overall a success. However, it suffered the fact that it was being released after the pandemic and was based on a character not many were familiar with. Origin stories don’t always attract a crowd, especially if the superhero isn’t as well known. Although, the film only had a budget of $150 Million, meaning that it earned more than double what was invested.

4. Eternals

Eternals had offered fans a lot to complain about. The movie got a lot of backlash when it came out because of how jumbled up it was. The characters were profusely imbalanced and the story too had been jumping from one point to another. Introducing a lot of characters was never a problem for Marvel fans and they had stated the same. It was the fact of how they were being introduced that made the movie not well received.

It made only $401 Million with a budget of $200 Million. Many wished to see it as a Disney+ series with every episode fleshing out characters individually. Its unfortunate failure at the box office made it even more questionable whether or not Eternals would get a sequel or not. However, it is to be noted that the film also suffered the likes of the pandemic.

3. Black Widow

Black Widow was perhaps the most awaited movie for the fans. It was the prequel that had been demanded by the audience ever since Scarlett Johansson first debuted as the character in Iron Man 2. They wanted to see just how Natasha got out of the Red Room and what happened there. The film was the first of many to be released during the pandemic and suffered because of it as well. However, a lot of it also went to the fact that the movie was highly underwhelming.

With a budget of $200 Million, Black Widow made a total of $379 Million in the worldwide box office. The movie had a particularly underused villain with Taskmaster. The story could also have been explored more with there being many things that could have been done. All over, fans were not extremely fond of the movie.

2. Captain America: The First Avenger

Surprisingly enough, Chris Evans’ Captain America: The First Avenger also holds a place on this list. The movie that marked the start of the actor’s superhero journey made only $370 Million at the worldwide box office. However, its budget also happened to only be $140 Million. The movie did have a lot to offer but it just didn’t make as much as the MCU would have hoped for.

Its sequel, however, completely changed that because of just how well-received it had been. Although Captain America: The First Avenger did a lot of things right, it was only the beginning for the franchise that was yet to achieve some of the highest peaks.

1. The Incredible Hulk

Lastly, The Incredible Hulk managed to only make $265 Million worldwide with a budget of $137 Million. Edward Norton’s sole appearance as Bruce Banner did not make as much of an impact on the audience as the franchise would have hoped. The studios themselves were looking for a different actor who provided something that the actor could not offer.

There was a lot going on behind the scenes as compared to what was happening on-screen. There were quite a few factors that came into the fact that the movie barely made over $250 Million. This marked it as the lowest-grossing Marvel Movie as of now.
