Zack Snyder continued his collaboration with Netflix in building various IPs for the streamer with the recent release Rebel Moon. Snyder previously created another franchise with Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves. While audiences enjoyed these two films, Rebel Moon which is considered Snyder’s version of Star Wars did not get the expected love from audiences.
The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews and it seems the film also failed to make an impact on the Netflix charts as well. Other films on the streamer managed to beat audience viewership by a huge margin without much anticipation from audiences as they did for Snyder’s film.
These 5 Netflix Films Got More Audience Viewership Than Rebel Moon in 2023
Zack Snyder‘s Rebel Moon was released on 21st December 2023 with much fanfare and anticipation. Snyder had teased over the months leading up to the film that the project is his most ambitious yet his fans were excited for a film that was his own with no studio interference. However, the film received negative reviews when it was released on the streamer.
It seems not many audiences turned up to watch the film either. A post by What’s on Netflix on X shows how five other Netflix films outperformed Rebel Moon in terms of audience viewership. While Snyder’s film raked in 23.9 views in 4 days, these five films pulled in more viewers in the same time period,
1. Murder Mystery 2
This 2023 film is the sequel to the highly popular 2019 film Murder Mystery. The mystery/ comedy film starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler successfully managed to use its two main leads to anchor a film that was not supported by a great plot.
The fun banter between the leads and the investigative element of the film more than made up for its thin plot. Audiences lapped up the film and managed to bring in 42.9 million viewers in its first 4 days.
2. The Mother
Jennifer Lopez stars as a US military operative in this passable action thriller from the streamer this year. While the plot is unoriginal and derivative, Lopez and Lucy Paez’s mother-daughter relationship struck a chord with audiences.
Lopez herself impressed viewers in the action sequences and she also showed her range as an actress in some of the film’s dramatic moments. The film raked in 42.9 million viewers in its first 4 days.

3. Leave the World Behind
The most recent entry in this Netflix list is the Julia Roberts-led apocalyptic thriller that has enthralled audiences across the globe. The eerie premise and the thought-provoking socio-political themes worked in its favor and the film raked in 41.7 million views in its first 4 days.
Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, and Kevin Bacon also added to the overall depth of the film’s narrative evoking paranoia and fear. The film also makes a social commentary on privacy and cyber attacks that can have catastrophic consequences.
4. Heart of Stone
This highly disappointing Mission Impossible wannabe starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, and Alia Bhatt, failed to bring anything new to the spy thriller genre. It resorted to using the same old espionage tropes with a female spy.
The tried and tested plot of everyone chasing after a technologically advanced MacGuffin did not do any favors to the film. However, the film grabbed eyeballs with its starcast and it managed to bring in 33.1 viewers in the first four days of its release on Netflix.
5. You People
This comedy starring Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy came out early this year on Netflix and most audiences seem to have enjoyed the film. While some have pointed out its antisemitic elements, the more relatable aspects of the film like marriage, culture clash, and societal expectations worked in favor of the film. It managed to bring in 28.3 million viewers in its first four days of release.
