Reports from insider sources suggest that Marvel Studios has reached out to Ryan Gosling regarding a potential role in the MCU. Previously, Gosling was among the many names speculated to be considered for the role of Doctor Doom. While the source doesn’t specify whether he was approached to play a superhero or supervillain, several roles on both sides of the MCU spectrum could suit Gosling.
Last year, the Barbie star was also rumored to be taking on the character Nova / Richard Rider in a Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff, but the actor later debunked those rumors.

5 Roles Ryan Gosling Could Play In The MCU
Insider Daniel Richtman revealed, via his Patreon, that Marvel Head Kevin Feige reportedly had a meeting with Ryan Gosling to discuss a potential role in the MCU. This news comes at a time when Marvel Studios parted ways with one of their lead actors in the MCU, Jonathan Majors, and Gosling also stepped away from the Wolf Man project. The odds are looking good for Gosling to potentially play a major role in the MCU.
Cyclops
Scott Summers / Cyclops serves as the leader of the X-Men in Marvel Comics. However, when Cyclops made his appearance in the X-Men live-action movies produced by Fox, the character struggled to live up to the legacy established in the comics. This was primarily due to the movies sidelining Summers, played by James Marsden, in favor of Hugh Jackman’s more popular Wolverine.
Ryan Gosling’s tall and handsome physique aligns well with the comic book description of Cyclops. With the MCU currently introducing several X-Men characters, Cyclops is bound to show up sometime in one of the upcoming projects. The multiverse makes it easy for the switch from Marsden to Gosling.
Doctor Doom
Ryan Gosling has been one of the fan favorites to play Dr. Victor Von Doom, especially since the Fantastic Four project was announced by Marvel. In the comics, Doom stands as the archenemy of Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four. Doctor Doom was the main antagonist in the Secret Wars comics. The MCU will consider returning to the comic storyline, especially with Jonathan Majors’ exit.
Gosling’s nuanced acting skills could prove invaluable in portraying Doom. Throughout the years, comic book fans saw the various sides of Doctor Doom, ranging from a tortured figure to a ruthless villain and, at times, even an anti-hero.
Human Torch
While there may have been initial arguments about Ryan Gosling being slightly too old to portray the young and immature Johnny Storm, his performance as Ken in Barbie may change that view for many. Gosling has the charisma to pull off the young man’s characterization. With the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four serving as the third live-action reboot of the superhero team, Gosling faces the challenge of playing it differently from the first two versions.
Gosling’s casting would also pose a challenge to find an actress who aligns with the elder and mature sister role of Susan Storm. The current fan favorite, Vanessa Kirby, is eight years junior to the La La Land actor.

Galactus
Ryan Gosling could potentially play another Fantastic Four villain, the cosmic entity Galactus. The character made a discreet appearance as a hurricane-like cloud in the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. In the comics, Galactus consumes planets to sustain his life force and uses angelic heralds like the Silver Surfer to carry out his deeds.
Earlier rumors had suggested that Gosling might be cast as the Silver Surfer, with Keanu Reeves playing Galactus. However, it seems highly unlikely for Marvel to feature multiple A-list stars in a non-Avenger movie.
Molecule Man
According to the comics, Owen Reece / Molecule Man becomes one of the most powerful beings in existence after an accident. Both the Beyonder and Doctor Doom use him as a tool but for different purposes. He plays a crucial role in the Secret Wars comics. Therefore, fans expect him to make an appearance in the movies.
Earlier speculations pointed to Simon Baker of The Mentalist fame for the role. However, with Jonathan Majors’ exit, Molecule Man may play a major role, prompting the consideration of a more prominent actor for the role.
