Gege Akutami is one such mangaka who is equally loved and hated by his followers. It has been more than five years since they began the serialization of Jujutsu Kaisen, but still, no one knows their true identity. Even their gender is a big mystery. The name ‘Gege Akutami’ is just a pen name. Their magnum opus, Jujutsu Kaisen, has reached the peak of popularity, and there are hardly any anime that can compete with it.
Even after being the reason behind the greatest anime of all time, they remain one of the most hated mangaka of all time. There are several reasons for that, but the one that stands out is their laziness. Gege Akutami’s laziness knows no bounds. Let us look at a few instances of their laziness that led to significant changes in Jujutsu Kaisen. Mild spoilers ahead.
6. One-Eyed Avatar
To keep their identity a secret, Gege Akutami uses a cat avatar as their picture. Any place that has them mentioned will be indicated by his cat avatar. One of the significant features of their avatar is that it has one eye. Due to their laziness triumphing over their creativity, they used a one-eyed cat avatar since a second eye would require them to work more every time.
5. Permutation and Combination with Names
If the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom looks carefully into the names of the anime characters, they will find that most of the names are connected. The name Jogo is the opposite of Gojo. In the same way, Toge and Geto, Hanami, and Nanami are connected. Gege Akutami’s laziness reached new heights when they decided to use the same name differently instead of researching more names.
4. Bandages To Blindfolds
Another instance that upholds Gege Akutami’s laziness is them changing Satoru Gojo’s eye covers from bandages to blindfolds. Drawing bandages required more work, and it needed to have a knot at the back of the head, but in the case of blindfolds, a few strokes of the pencil would do the trick. Also, they needed to work more to show Gojo tying the bandages, which needed them to work more. Sometimes, it becomes so hard to understand whether they are clever or just pure lazy.

3. Gege Akutami
Their pen name, ‘Gege Akutami,’ is also proof of their laziness. Initially, they chose their pen name to be ‘Dokudami Milk,’ but later changed it to their current name. The sole reason for this change was that the Japanese name had too many Kanjis, and it meant that they needed to put extra effort into writing their name. In the case of ‘Gege Akutami’, the work was comparatively less, and so they decided to go with it.
2. Bodies Dropping Like Flies
Gege Akutami does not care about his characters. Since the beginning of the Shibuya Incident arc, the bodies have dropped like flies. It can be pretty well understood that they want to finish Jujutsu Kaisen early. They are averaging one dead character in less than ten chapters. Dead characters mean that they do not have to draw them. Moreover, it means that they can finish their magnum opus early and enjoy being lazy.
1. Yuji Itadori
Yuji Itadori is the main protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. Unfortunately, he never got the spotlight he deserved due to Gege Akutami’s lazy writing. Yuji randomly swallowed Sukuna’s finger and managed to merge with him. The reason or connection behind it was never shown, and neither was anything revealed about his background, except for his grandfather. He has suffered a lot. He has been losing friends and colleagues continuously, yet there seem to be no power-ups for him.
Initially, he had thought of using ‘毒溜ミルク’ (Dokudami Milk) as his pen name

But he discarded that idea cuz the kanjis had too many strokes to write & he was too lazy for it. So he later finalized ‘芥見下々’ (Akutami Gege) https://t.co/Dmh3Dvu9Y0
He needs to rely on other’s help to overcome calamities. Giving him power-ups would mean more work for Gege Akutami, which is the complete opposite of what is mentioned in his handbook of laziness. The amount of suffering he went through would have led to three different power-ups in any other anime. But Gege Akutami prefers to keep his work rate low.
