After twelve years in early access, 7 Days to Die has finally reached its full 1.0 release. While the update includes many new features, fans haven’t been too happy with some of them. The main one that is getting the most attention is the removal of the empty jar items that you get after drinking water.

In response, fans have turned to humor. The game’s subreddit has been full of posts about the empty jar including the iconic Hugh Jackman Wolverine meme, to cope with the loss of this important mechanic.

This One 7 Days to Die Change Has Gotten Fans Lamenting

In the 7 Days to Die 1.0 update, once a player drinks water from a jar, the empty container no longer appears in their inventory. The change was first introduced to PC players with the Alpha 21 update.

And it has now reached console players, who now have to cope with this change as well. The lack of jars forces players to rely on alternative methods for water collection, such as the newly introduced dew collectors.

In previous versions of the game, players got the empty jars as an item after drinking water from it. This meant that you could refill and reuse them. This feature was crucial for managing resources and surviving in Navezgane’s harsh conditions. However, with the new update, empty jars no longer return to players’ inventories.

A popular post on the 7 Days to Die subreddit featured a meme about this as fans turn to humor to cope with loss. The iconic Hugh Jackman Wolverine meme, recreated recently by the actor himself, has been repurposed by fans to express their nostalgia for the old mechanics. In the meme, Wolverine is shown looking at a photo, originally of Jean Grey, but now depicting the lost glass jar feature.

The removal of glass jars is just one of many changes that 7 Days to Die has undergone over its long development period. The game has changed considerably since its initial release. The devs have added, removed, or altered many parts of the game.

For example, earlier updates removed items like gun parts and gardening hoes, and adjusted mechanics like crafting and looting. Interestingly, not all players are against the new mechanic. Some argue that the removal of empty jars has streamlined their inventory management, making the game more enjoyable.

For these players, the focus has shifted from constantly managing water to exploring and surviving, which they find more engaging. Players can only hope that the developers will find a balance that honors the game’s history even with new features and updates.

The developers, The Fun Pimps, have yet to respond directly to the backlash. However, the passionate response from the community suggests that they may need to consider player feedback carefully.
