Ke Huy Quan Talks About His Biggest Fear

Quan is a Vietnamese immigrant. His parents fled from worn-torn Vietnam to give their children a better living in the United States of America. The Goonies star had no idea that he would end up being an actor. Quan’s journey started with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as a child actor. He played the role of Short Round and gained public recognition. Despite being untrained in acting, Quan was able to impress the viewers.

Ke Huy Quan was able to get back into mainstream media after years of rejection and struggle. Quan shared after winning the Oscar that he is afraid that his present success will end up being a mere dream. Decades of failure have shadowed the mind of Quan with fear. But one thing can surely be assured Quan’s success is not a dream. It is rather an inspiration for the young youth who are struggling in their respective lives. 

“Everything is still so fresh in my mind. And that’s why moving forward I’m still really scared. Even though I just won an Oscar, I’m still really fearful of what tomorrow brings. I had a conversation with my agent, and I said ‘I’m so worried that this is only a one-time thing.’ I’ve been down this road before and I’m so afraid that history is going to repeat itself. I said ‘please, whatever you do, please make sure that does not happen’.”

Ke Huy Quan On His Incoming Success

Quan went dormant just after delivering a few films as a child actor. The Goonies star shared that he struggled to grab another role and has only blamed himself for it. After studying film at USC, Quan worked as an assistant director and fight choreographer. But the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom star were brought back to the big screen and what came next has surely made history.

Now the time has changed as Quan has already three more upcoming projects piled up for him, which include the second season of MCU Loki, a sci-fi film titled, The Electric State, and the TV series American Born Chinese. Speaking about the pressure to deliver continuous hits, Quan shared the piece of advice he received from Cate Blanchett.

“I attended an event recently and sat next to Cate Blanchett. I told her that I don’t know what I’m going to do next, but I feel I have a responsibility to do something good, and that I don’t want to disappoint all the people that have supported me. And she said, ‘Just go with your heart and be irresponsible: Don’t worry about what other people think. Choose something that you believe in, choose something that you love, and things will work out’.”
