Tom Holland got on board the project when his mental health was not the very best, causing the actor to say goodbye to his social media for a while. Although he eventually logged back into his accounts, he is now facing another problem – the negative reviews for The Crowded Room. These reviews might have hit Tom Holland harder than you’d expect, as he had such a difficult time making the series, that he decided to take a year-long hiatus from acting.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland opened up about what it was like seeing the negative reviews pour in for The Crowded Room. The actor not only stars in the series but also served as an executive producer, which is all the more reason to feel disappointed with its reception.

“It was a kick in the teeth. Rolling over, looking up the reviews, and then all of a sudden I was like, ‘Wow. That’s a bad review.’ Sometimes there’s a redeeming quality in there. There was nothing.”

However, he cheered up and stated that “there will be good ones. There will be,” adding that he prefers to have a healthy outlook on things. As for the series reviews, the Rotten Tomatoes score stands at a low 32%. However, while the critics don’t seem to be impressed, the fans were all for it. Showering the show with positive reviews, fans took the average audience score to a whopping 90%.

The project was not easy for Holland to take on as he was dealing with his own mental health issues. He even took a break from social media to sort things out. The actor stated on August 13,

“I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming. I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state, so I’ve decided to take a step back and delete the app.”

About 10 weeks after the decision, Holland was back online and eventually started promoting The Crowded Room on his socials.

After Holland was done shooting The Crowded Room, he decided to take a well-deserved break from acting. Talking to Extra, Holland talked about the problems he had “exploring certain emotions” as an actor as well as dealing with other problems as a producer. All of this led to the Uncharted actor taking a one-year-long break from the business.

“It was a tough time, for sure. We were exploring certain emotions that I have never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure. I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was.”

On Live with Kelly and Mark, Holland clarified that the hiatus is not because of the negative reviews, as some may assume. In fact, he stated that he was already eight months into his year off. During this time, Holland has been focusing on himself, going to Grand Prixes, playing golf, and staying back at his home in London.
