In 1996, several news outlets revealed that Stallone’s daughter, Sophia, was born with a hole in her heart. However, she underwent surgery and managed to fight for many years. At the age of 16, Sophia Rose Stallone fainted while playing volleyball and needed immediate surgery once again.

Actor Sylvester Stallone‘s daughter, Sophia Rose Stallone, opened up about her heart condition in a recent episode of The Family Stallone. She explained that she was living a normal life until she fainted while playing volleyball at the age of 16,

“It was really having to go from living this normal life when I was 16 to having to have my chest sawed open. The moment I found out I needed an operation was one of the most pivotal experiences of my entire life because I never had to consider death before.”

She further explained that it was a really hard time for everyone in her family. This was the second time she needed an operation.

Sylvester Stallone first discovered that Sophia has a hole in her heart back in 1996 when she was just two months old. It was discovered during a routine check at the Miami hospital where she was born. Stallone and his wife, Jennifer Flavin, were worried because Sophia was not gaining weight.

Thankfully, with Stallone’s resources and the doctor’s help, Sophia got the surgery that she required and started recovering. However, since 2014, she has been going to a doctor for an annual heart checkup.

Sylvester Stallone couldn’t talk about his daughter’s condition

It was very hard for Stallone to deal with his daughter’s condition. During the episode, Sophia talked about the trauma it caused to her family,

“It’s really traumatizing when you see the people that you think [would tell you], ‘You’re going to be 100 percent fine,’ break down harder than you.”

Sophia then added that she hasn’t really had a conversation about her heart surgery with her father since 2014 because “he really didn’t know how to deal with it.” However, she revealed that she talked to him about it last week and Sly told her that he was “scared to death” and she was very brave.
