At the London premiere of War of the Worlds in 2005, a prankster sprayed water on Cruise’s face with a fake microphone. Although it was a prank that was part of the British Channel 4 series titled Balls of Steel, Tom Cruise did not share in their excitement and humor.

“Do you like thinking less of people, is that it? That’s incredibly rude. I’m here giving you an interview and you do that … it’s incredibly rude. You’re a jerk … jerk … you’re a jerk.”

After telling him off, the prankster and his three camera crew members were arrested by the police. The channel that was backing up this prank program later apologized to Tom Cruise and stated that it was meant to be humorous and not hurtful at all.

In an interview, director Andy Musschieti and Barbara Muschietti talked about their upcoming movie The Flash and how it had received compliments from Tom Cruise.

“It’s a very cynical industry, and to hear people that really have no skin in the game, because they have nothing to gain, just say something that lovely – in the case of Tom Cruise, he called us, talked for 15 minutes, praising Andy, praising the film, and it just feels very good because we really work very hard to make these movies.”

With numerous controversies and great films, the actor is expected to reach even greater heights in his filmography. The 2005 movie War of the Worlds is available to stream on Max.
