Appearing in his 2007 Disney comedy, The Game Plan, Dwayne Johnson suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury. Preparing for his role as a professional quarterback, the actor faced an accident due to his 260 lbs weight during football practice. Following Johnson’s immediate need for surgery, the production was even put on hiatus.

Beginning his acting career in 2001 with The Mummy Returns, Dwayne Johnson continued his Hollywood adventure with notable success. Further starring in some of the highest-grossing movies at the box office, the former WWE champion became one of the most successful Hollywood stars.

However, his acting career came at the cost of his own physical health. Suffering several injuries throughout his acting career, Johnson faced a major scare while shooting his 2007 Disney comedy. Preparing for his role as a professional quarterback, the actor suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury.

In an interview with Access Hollywood in 2006, Dwayne Johnson discussed how the injury happened and how he felt about it. Stating how his 260 lbs weight played against him during football practice, Johnson mentioned his regret as Disney had to stop their production for him.

Undergoing immediate surgery in Miami, the production was thus put on hiatus as the actor was under medical care.

Dwayne Johnson Recalled His Ruptured Achilles Tendon Injury 

During his 2006 interview with the media outlet, Dwayne Johnson mentioned being infuriated by his injury. Recalling the severity of his physical ailment, the former WWE champion mentioned feeling scared of jeopardizing his career.

I did a little rollout play-action pass and threw to the receiver and I just came down at that precise time while all my weight was aligned on my foot on that tendon and I ruptured my Achilles tendon,” Johnson explained. 

Further, recalling his previous injuries, the actor stated the pain was beyond comprehension, which he felt after rupturing his tendon. “I’ve had breaks before, I’ve had some minor tears and things like that but this was a full-on clean rupture,” Johnson mentioned. Stating about his career-altering injury, the actor mentioned realizing the gravity of the situation as his injury put the production on hold.

I started to think I’m gonna go home gonna have surgery. I got a great surgeon. And there’s a lot of jobs that just got put on hold up here in Boston for this movie. So I was pretty pissed at that.” the actor shared. 

However, he was later treated by world-class orthopedic surgeon Dr. John W. Uribe and managed a full recovery to resume his role in the Disney comedy movie. The Game Plan did well at the box office and earned $146M.
