Tom Cruise acted as a savior of Hollywood when the movies were not going too well following the worldwide pandemic. Top Gun: Maverick proved that audiences will come to the theater if well-made projects are delivered to them. As the star is returning to the big screen once again with Mission Impossible 7, this time the task will not be an easy one. The upcoming movie will face tough competition from several fronts and looks like the star’s very well prepared for it.

After the release of Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones 5 which will drop at the end of this year, there are three major releases around the same time. Soon after a week of Mission Impossible 7, we are all set to witness two of the most anticipated movies of this year- Oppenheimer and Barbie.

Oppenheimer and Barbie

July’s going to be the absolute period of joy for ardent cinephiles who will get the chance to witness three renowned films within a single time frame. The list can be even pushed to four if we consider Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which will be dropped on June 30. But to the Ethan Hunt fame, Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer and Margot Robbie‘s Barbie would be the bigger monsters to defeat.

While Tom Cruise is set to depart for his next mission on July 12, Christopher Nolan and Greta Gerwig both will release their star-studded projects on July 21. As if this wasn’t enough, things went South for Cruise as Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One can’t stay in IMAX for more than nine days. As Oppenheimer is shot entirely on IMAX cameras, the IMAX theaters will only show Nolan’s project for three weeks. Cruise’s franchise is also renowned for its action extravaganza but sadly fans won’t be able to take that immersive experience for long.

Rumors were there that Tom Cruise was extremely annoyed after his movie was denied for IMAX after nine days of its release. But now it looks like the star has accepted the challenge as he took to his social media to address the three upcoming Summer releases.

Although some have praised Cruise’s sporty attitude in addressing the three big movies that are yet to come, it has also been associated with the curse that lies with the actor. It was recently witnessed in The Flash when the movie failed to create the impact that was expected from it.

The Flash was expected to be a major hit after all the news that came from it. The early reviews pushed the film to the heights of a masterpiece. Director Andy Muschietti added more to the film’s praise that Tom Cruise personally called him to speak about his experience after watching the movie.

Speaking to Total Magazine, Muscietti stated how the praises he received from Tom Cruise and Stephen King elevated their confidence regarding the Ezra Miller starrer. Producer of The Flash Barbara Muscietti also corroborated the news and appreciated the Vanilla Sky star.

“It’s a very cynical industry, and to hear people that really have no skin in the game, because they have nothing to gain, just say something that lovely – in the case of Tom Cruise, he called us, talked for 15 minutes, praising Andy, praising the film, and it just feels very good because we really work very hard to make these movies.”

But unfortunately, it didn’t help the movie in any way and The Flash turned out to be a box-office disappointment. There are several reasons such as poor CGI, mixed reception, and Ezra Miller’s controversies which prevented the movie from being a smasher hit. As Tom Cruise urged his fans to check out all the upcoming releases, it will be hoped that all of them will see a better outcome than the latest DC flick.

Indiana Jones 5 will be released on June 30, 2023. Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One will be released on July 12, 2023. Oppenheimer and Barbie will hit the theaters on July 21, 2023.
